Metaphosphimates are possible precursors for oxonitridophosphates.
A new polymorph of trimetaphosphimic acid, in fact an
oxonium trimetaphosphimate monohydrate, crystallizes in the
monoclinic space group P21/c. It exhibits coin-roll-like stacks of
H2(PO2NH)3
anions in a rectangular pattern, whereas these
form a hexagonal arrangement in the known polymorph. Ring
conformation analysis reveals a state between boat and twist
conformations, closer to the boat conformation. Temperaturedependent
powder diffraction shows decomposition upon
heating to ca. 100 °C.
