Previous issue date: 2004-12-01 / The general aim of this paper is to reflect about the presence/absence of
the nurses from religious orders in the nursing work, since the beginning of this
profession until the modern times, specifically at the Hospital das Clínicas (HC)
from the Medical School in Goiás Federal University. The researched place is
composed of sixteen (16) nursing workers, divided into two large categories: the
ones who don t have formal education and people who belong to religious orders.
This essay tries to do a brief definition of words as Priesthood, Caring and
Solidarity, studying approaches and distance related to the main characteristic of
the work of the nursing professional. This paper is organized by three distinct
parts: a) in the first part, it shows a historical profile of the Nursing Profession,
since its ancient origins till the modern times, going to the Health Works in the
Middle Ages, and it is already the Christian period and it also shows the hospitals
during the Modern Ages, including the Brazilian Nursing History, since the Colonial
Times until the modern university courses and the performance of the nurses in
the Family Heath Program; b) the second chapter describes part of the Hospital
das Clínicas installation and building, its administrative organization, its main
directors and the HC nursing service history, as well as to take notes about the HC
present staff , specially from the Nursing Area and c) the third part does a report of
the questionnaire answers, the analysis of the collected data and its relationship
between the concepts of the Priesthood, Caring and Solidarity. / O objetivo geral é refletir sobre a presença/ausência das enfermeiras de
ordens religiosas no exercício da enfermagem, desde o início da profissão até os
tempos modernos, especialmente no caso do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade
de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Goiás. O universo pesquisado é
composto de 16 (dezesseis) profissionais de enfermagem, distribuídos em duas
categorias: os leigos e aqueles pertencentes a alguma ordem religiosa. Elaborase
breve conceituação de tópicos como sacerdócio, carisma e solidariedade,
investigando aproximações e afastamentos das características principais da
enfermagem. O texto está estruturado em três partes: a) no primeiro capítulo,
elabora-se um breve perfil histórico da profissão de enfermagem, desde suas
origens pagãs até a modernidade, passando pelos trabalhos em saúde na Idade
Média e pelos hospitais da Idade Moderna. Passa-se também pela história da
enfermagem no Brasil, da colônia até os modernos cursos universitários e a
atuação de enfermeiro no Programa de Saúde da Família; b) no segundo capítulo,
recupera-se parte da história da instalação e construção do HC, a organização
administrativa, os principais diretores e a história do serviço de enfermagem no
Hospital, além de anotar o atual quadro de trabalhadores, especialmente os do
setor de enfermagem c) no terceiro capítulo, faz-se à exposição das respostas ao
questionário aplicado, a análise dos dados recolhidos e a vinculação com os
conceitos de sacerdócio, carisma e solidariedade.
