A proposta vital é a historicização de seu legado, no sentido de compreender algumas estratégias pelas quais essa posição foi estabelecida. Elegem-se então por objeto o conjunto dos discursos do autor sobre si mesmo e sua obra, e a memória que se construiu em torno dele, principalmente entre os decênios de 1970 e 1980. Assim, o problema essencial perscruta as articulações entre a escrita de si e a memória, nos níveis individual e coletivo. Algumas hipóteses concorrem para a sua melhor apreensão. Parte-se, para tanto, de ao menos dois temas medulares da escrita de si de Buarque de Holanda, como a contumaz e reiterada insatisfação quanto a Raízes do Brasil, que visa recuperar o ensaio para novos contextos, e a autoafirmação de sua identidade de historiador, para a qual concorre o recurso à memória disciplinar e a inscrição de si na tradição historiográfica. Em seguida, procura-se observar de que maneiras, por meio desses discursos sobre si, o autor se posiciona com relação tanto às críticas de uma história da historiografia que despontava nos anos 1970, quanto às questões políticas da vida brasileira, submetida a um regime de força. Por fim, o desafio maior é sondar as pontes que se estendem, do si mesmo ao outro, isto é, entre a escrita de si e a construção social da memória do historiador, as expectativas que a alimentaram nos anos 1980, sem descuidar de indicar algumas variações internas e temporais. Ao termo desse percurso, espera-se ter contribuído para dar a ver o essencial da constituição da posição estabilizada de Buarque de Holanda na memória disciplinar, como autor clássico de nossa história da escrita da história. Palavras-chave: Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (1902-1982); escrita de si; memória; historiografia brasileira / Abstract: The purpose of this study, in the broad thematic field, is to show the place of Sergio Buarque de Holanda (1902-1982) in the history of historiography. The main objective is to historicize his legacy in order to understand some strategies adopted for the consolidation of this position over time. The subject matter that was chosen was the author's discourses on himself and his work, and the memory that was built around him, mainly in the 1970s and 1980s. Thus, the research that was done scrutinized the links between the self-writing and the memory, at the individual and collective levels. Some hypotheses help get a better understand of it. Therefore, an analysis is done to look into at least two core themes of Buarque de Holanda's self-writing, such as the stubbornly persistent and repeated dissatisfaction with Roots of Brazil, which aims to take the essay to new contexts, and the self-assertion of his historian identity, which coexists with the recourse to the disciplinary memory and the registration of himself in the historiographical tradition. Then, an attempt is made to observe the stand taken by the author, through these discourses about himself, both on the criticism of a history of historiography that began to rise in the 1970s, and on the political issues of Brazilian life subjected to a dictatorial regime. Finally, the biggest challenge is to probe into the bridges between himself and others, that is, between the self-writing and the social construction of the historian's memory, the expectations that fed it the 1980s, without refraining from showing some internal and temporal variations. The expectation is that, at the end of this process, one will be able to understand the essence of how the stabilized position of Buarque de Holanda was established in the disciplinary memory, as a classical author of our history of history writing. Keywords: Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (1902-1982); Self-writing; Memory; Brazilian historiography / Résumé: Cette thèse interroge la constitution de la place de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (1902-1982) dans l'historiographie brésilienne. Elle porte sur l'historicisation de son héritage, afin de cerner les stratégies par le biais desquelles cette position s'est établie au fil du temps. Ainsi l'objet de cette étude regroupe l'ensemble des discours de l'auteur sur lui-même et son oeuvre, et sur la mémoire qui s'est édifiée autour de lui, principalement entre les années 1970 et 1980. Dès lors, le problème essentiel s'articule entre l'écriture de soi et la mémoire, aux niveaux individuel et collectif. Quelques hypothèses convergeraient pour une meilleure appréhension. On partira, à cet effet, d'au moins deux thèmes fondamentaux de l'écriture de soi de Buarque de Holanda, comme l'insatisfaction récurrente et répétée à l'égard des Racines du Brésil qui vise à transposer l'essai à de nouveaux contextes, et l'autoaffirmation de l'identité d'historien, fruit du recours à la mémoire disciplinaire et de l'inscription de soi dans la tradition historiographique. Puis, il s'agira d'observer de quelles manières, à travers ces discours sur lui-même, l'auteur prend position par rapport, d'une part, aux critiques d'une historiographie qui éclot dans les années 1970, et d'autre part, aux questions politiques de la vie brésilienne soumise à un régime armé. Enfin, le plus grand défi sera de sonder les ponts qui se dressent de soi-même à l'autre, c'est-à-dire, entre l'écriture de soi et la construction sociale de la mémoire de l'historien, les attentes qui la nourrissent dans les années 1980, sans toutefois oublier d'indiquer quelques variations internes et temporelles. Au terme de ce parcours, on entendra avoir appréhendé l'essentiel de la constitution de la place de Buarque de Holanda inscrite dans la mémoire disciplinaire, en tant qu'auteur classique de notre histoire de l'écriture de l'histoire.
