Defesa: Curitiba, 27/06/2017 / Inclui referências : f. 122-128 / Resumo: O estudo dedicou-se em investigar como ocorre a interpretação do patrimônio para o turismo em museus de história natural com acervo paleontológico, visando reunir referências que subsidiem a interpretação do patrimônio no museu no museu da Terra e da Vida, em Mafra, Santa Catarina. A análise fundamentada nos princípios da interpretação propostos por Tildem em 1957 e por Beck e Cable em 1998, procurou conhecer as mídias interpretativas disponíveis nesses locais que favorecem a comunicação junto ao público. O objetivo principal do trabalho foi analisar a interpretação do patrimônio paleontológico para o turismo, em museus de história natural e sua contribuição para difusão do patrimônio paleontológico no museu da Terra e da Vida, em Mafra, Santa Catarina. A metodologia da pesquisa tem caráter qualitativo e apresenta como método de pesquisa uma investigação exploratória, com técnicas documental, bibliográfica, entrevistas e questionários com especialistas da temática e gestores de museus de história natural. Foram pesquisados museus de história natural dos estados do Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Alagoas, além de um museu internacional de Londres, Inglaterra. Nestes, foram identificadas as mídias interpretativas utilizadas e o público predominante, constatando que em muitos aspectos os museus estão em consonância com os princípios da interpretação, principalmente na utilização das mídias pessoais, porém as mídias impessoais, em especial as multimídias, ainda são pouco utilizadas. Com base nesses dados foram traçadas algumas considerações para o Museu da Terra e da Vida, com o propósito de auxiliar no melhor aproveitamento do patrimônio para o turismo. Interpretação do Patrimônio. / Abstract: The study focused on investigating the interpretation of heritage for tourism in natural history museums with a paleontological collection, aiming to gather references that support the interpretation of heritage in the museum in the Museum of Earth and Life in Mafra, Santa Catarina. The analysis based on the principles of interpretation proposed by Tilden in 1957 and by Beck and Cable in 1998, sought to know the interpretive media available in these places that favor communication with the public. The main objective of this work was to analyze the interpretation of the paleontological heritage for tourism in natural history museums and their contribution to the diffusion of the paleontological heritage in the Museum of Earth and Life in Mafra, Santa Catarina. The methodology of the research has a qualitative character and presents as an exploratory research method, with documentary, bibliographic techniques, interviews and questionnaires with specialists in thematic and managers of natural history museums. Natural history museums from the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Alagoas, as well as an international museum in London, England, were searched. In these, we have identified the interpretive media used and the predominant public, noting that in many respects museums are in accordance with the principles of interpretation, especially in the use of personal media, but impersonal media, especially multimedia, are still little used. Based on these data, some considerations were drawn up for the Museum of Land and Life, with the purpose of assisting in the best use of heritage for tourism. Key words: Tourism.
