Previous issue date: 2017-02-06 / The aim of this study is to investigate the meaning of institutional sheltering, as a sociophysical space for institutionalised teenagers. Eight teen boys from 13 to 15 years old, residents of a shelter institute located in Fortaleza ¿ CE participated in this research. Semi-structured interviews, participant observation and records from field journal were used as data collection. A instrument called ¿desire poem¿ was also used to express, in a free and authentic way, drawings or poems, feelings and desires about the environment analyzed, taking in consideration an open sentence, such as ¿I would like that the environment in shelter ...¿. The drawings done by the adolescents have shown three desires: the creation os a soccer field, the expansion of a leisure area and a study room for computers and internet. With the individualized semi-structured interview was possible to collect more specific information about each teenager and his/her impression about the meaning of institution. The Thematic Analysis of Content by Bardin was used for data handling. Based on this, four evaluation category were considered: institutional environment for teenagers; affective relationship among adolescents and between teenagers and social educators; teens perception about the moment they enter in the institute and the meaning of home or shelter institute for them. It was possible to conclude that the way the institute deal with the institutional sheltering situation mainly related with the treatment social educators give to adolescents helps in the process of staying in the institute. For Environmental Psychology, this institutional environment ensures the satisfaction of needs, the symbolic value of place for teens, continuity of this relationship and even the mobility when necessary. The main answers found by the teenagers about the meaning that institutional sheltering has for them in relation to home are different in some aspects, thus the feeling of protection and security is demonstrated for all, even though their institutional experiences were diverse. However, new searches about institutionalizing theme of teens, especially in Environmental Psychology perspective, are suggested so the cientific knowledge of this process progress and benefit these teenagers in institutionalisation situation.
Keywords: Intitutional Sheltering, Adolescents, Environmental Psychology. / O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o significado do acolhimento institucional, enquanto espaço sociofísico, para os adolescentes institucionalizados. Participaram oito adolescentes do masculino com idade entre 13 e 15 anos, residentes de uma instituição de acolhimento na cidade de Fortaleza-Ce. Foram utilizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas, observação participante, bem como registro em diários de campo como técnica de coleta de dados. Aplicou-se também o instrumento chamado ¿poema dos desejos¿ que consistia em expressar de forma livre e autêntica desenhos ou poemas, sentimentos e desejos relativos ao ambiente analisado a partir de uma frase aberta do tipo: Eu gostaria que o ambiente do abrigo... Os desenhos feitos pelos adolescentes indicaram três desejos: a criação de um campo de futebol, ampliação de um espaço de lazer e uma sala de estudos com computadores e internet. Com a entrevista semiestruturada de forma individual possibilitou captar mais informações específicas de cada adolescente e suas impressões acerca do significado da instituição. Utilizou-se a análise temática de conteúdo de Bardin para o tratamento dos dados, sendo que foram obtidos quatro categorias para análise: ambiente institucional para o adolescente; relação afetiva entre os adolescentes e entre os adolescentes e educadores sociais; percepções dos adolescentes sobre a entrada na instituição e o significado de casa ou instituição de acolhimento para os adolescentes. Pode-se concluir que a forma como a instituição lida com a situação de acolhimento institucional, principalmente no que se refere ao tratamento dos educadores sociais para com os adolescentes favorece no processo de permanência do adolescente na instituição. Para a psicologia ambiental, este ambiente institucional garante a satisfação de necessidades, o valor simbólico do lugar para os adolescentes, a permanência desta relação, e até mesmo a mobilidade quando necessário. As principais respostas encontradas pelos adolescentes quanto ao significado que o acolhimento institucional tem em relação a casa, se diferem em alguns pontos, porém o sentimento de proteção e segurança é demonstrado por todos, mesmo que suas experiências institucionais sejam diversas. No entanto, novas pesquisas sobre a temática da institucionalização de adolescentes, sobretudo, no olhar da psicologia ambiental são sugeridas para que o conhecimento científico desses processos avance e beneficie esses adolescentes em situação de institucionalização.
