Previous issue date: 2017-12-15 / The mother within the intensive care unit is a pedriatric reality. The maternal bond, the therapeutic following and all the experiences alowed by the techno and scientific environment of the ICU imply living experiences that influence the mother´s behaviour and how she relates with the environment, the child and his therapeutic. The objetive of this study is to understand the mother´s living experiences in relation to the hospitalization of their children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. It is a qualitative study, phenomenologic and interpretative, based on the Merleau-Ponty philosophy. The instruments utilized were semi structured interview and field notes. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Fortaleza (UNIFOR). The analysis of the depositions came through the search for understanding in light of the theoretical-methodological reference of the Phenomenology. In the search for maternal living experiences, four categories were differentiated: the suffering with the internment; the self-abdication and of other life experiences; the manifestation of faith; and the fear of loss. The maternal life experiences allow a context of what is experienced by the human being, it´s understanding favors the promotion of health and the applicability of a broad concept of heath, stimulating therefore a assistance to the mother, child and family in a scientific and humanized way. / A mãe inserida na unidade de terapia intensiva é uma realidade da pediatria. O vínculo materno, o acompanhamento da terapêutica e todas as experiências que o ambiente tecnológico e científico da UTI proporcionam implicam em vivências que influenciam no comportamento da mãe e como ela se relaciona com o ambiente, o filho e sua terapêutica. Objetivou-se com esse estudo compreender o vivido das mães em relação à hospitalização dos seus filhos na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Pediátrica. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, fenomenológico e interpretativo, fundamentado na filosofia de Merleau-Ponty. Os instrumentos utilizados foram entrevista semiestruturada e anotações de campo. O estudo obteve aprovação do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade de Fortaleza (UNIFOR). A análise dos depoimentos se deu pela busca da compreensão à luz do referencial teórico-metodológico da Fenomenologia. Na busca pelas vivências maternas, foram distinguidas quatro categorizações: O sofrimento com a internação; Abdicação do ¿eu¿ e de outras vivências; A manifestação da fé; e o medo da perda. As vivências maternas proporcionam uma contextualização do que é experienciado pelo ser humano. Sua compreensão favorece a promoção da saúde e a aplicabilidade do conceito amplo de saúde, estimulando, assim, uma assistência à mãe, ao filho e à família de forma científica e humanizada.
