Previous issue date: 2018-04-30 / This investigation started from the questioning about the experience lived of women in
contemporary conjugality and in the exercise of motherhood, aiming to understand how they
experience the current roles they assume in these relationships and which directions they assign
to these experiences. From a phenomenological-existential perspective based on concepts
bequeathed by the philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre and of the invaluable contributions of Simone
de Beauvoir's studies on the situation of the woman, it was possible to understand how the
being-project of the collaborators of this study, middle-class women, married and with
children, living in Fortaleza, Ceará, occurs. It was through concepts such as freedom, situation
and being-project that this study carried out an analysis on the praxis of women who, through
their choices, reinforce and at the same time offer resistance to the roles assigned to them,
denoting the anguish expressed by ambiguity which marks their discourses on the maternal
role, the difficulty of domestic and professional responsibilities, and the personal satisfaction
that the exercise of all these roles end up giving them. The method used for data collection was
the open interview with the trigger question "what is it like to be a woman? ", which establishes
the focus of the research on the experience lived by the collaborators. For the analysis of the
results it was used the Progressive-Regressive method (Sartre, 1978). Social aspects were
considered such as economic class and local culture that permeate these experiences and, from
a regressive analysis and a gradual synthesis of the data obtained, it was possible to understand
how these factors influenced women's choices towards their projects. The interviews were
conducted individually with ten middle-class women, married, having children and engaged in
some paid activity. What this research revealed is how women experience marital experience
today and how the responsibilities of the roles they play in the family change their lives.
Maternity, among all the experiences cited, appears as the most transformative, deeply
modifying the body, the time and the quality of life of these women. Rivalry between women
appears to be a concern, while mutual support between women appears as a current need for
them to be able to account for the responsibilities arising from the roles they have assumed.
Female empowerment and feminism emerge as still vague and superficial discussions that do
not seem to influence their praxis but are presented to them as questions that make them reflect
on their current situations. In contrast, the naturalizing discourse is still adopted by them and
directly influences how they perform their daily activities and how they understand their
responsibilities and their spouses in the family relationship and in the distribution of domestic
obligations. In sum, the results show that, even with formal education and financial
independence of women, the feminine roles in conjugality have undergone few modifications
with respect to the accumulation of responsibilities that fall on them. The belief in a supposed
feminine nature permeates the experience lived by these women in the motherhood, in the
conjugal relation and in the market, indicating that there are still several obstacles to solving
the social problems through these women's history of life.

phenomenology. / Esta investigação partiu do questionamento da experiência vivida de mulheres na
conjugalidade contemporânea e no exercício da maternidade, tendo como objetivo
compreender como elas experienciam os atuais papéis que assumem nessas relações e quais os
sentidos que atribuem a essas vivências. A partir de uma perspectiva fenomenológicoexistencial
baseada em conceitos legados pelo filósofo Jean-Paul Sartre, e das inestimáveis
contribuições advindas dos estudos de Simone de Beauvoir sobre a situação da mulher, foi
possível compreender como se desenvolve o projeto de ser das colaboradoras deste estudo,
mulheres de classe média, casadas e com filhos, residentes em Fortaleza, Ceará. Foi através de
conceitos como liberdade, situação e projeto de ser, que este estudo realizou uma análise sobre
as práxis de mulheres que, mediante suas escolhas, reforçam e ao mesmo tempo oferecem
resistência aos papéis a elas atribuídos, denotando a angústia expressa pela ambiguidade que
marca seus discursos sobre o papel materno, sobre a dificuldade das responsabilidades
domésticas e profissionais, e sobre a satisfação pessoal que o exercício de todos esses papéis
acaba proporcionando a elas. O método utilizado para a coleta de dados foi a entrevista aberta
com a pergunta disparadora ¿como é ser mulher?¿, que estabelece o foco da investigação sobre
a experiência vivida das colaboradoras. Para a análise dos resultados foi utilizado o método
Progressivo-Regressivo (Sartre, 1978). Foram considerados os aspectos sociais como a classe
econômica e a cultura local que perpassam essas experiências e, a partir de uma análise
regressiva e de uma síntese progressiva dos dados obtidos, foi possível compreender como
esses fatores influenciaram as escolhas das mulheres em direção aos seus projetos de ser. As
entrevistas foram realizadas individualmente com dez mulheres de classe média, casadas, que
têm filhos e que realizam alguma atividade remunerada. Esta pesquisa revelou como as
mulheres vivenciam a experiência conjugal na atualidade e como as responsabilidades dos
papéis por elas assumidos na família modificam suas vidas. A maternidade, entre todas as
experiências citadas, aparece como a mais transformadora, modificando profundamente o
corpo, o tempo e a qualidade de vida dessas mulheres. A rivalidade entre mulheres aparece
como preocupação, ao passo que o apoio mútuo entre mulheres aparece como necessidade atual
para que consigam dar conta das responsabilidades decorrentes dos papéis que assumiram. O
empoderamento feminino e o feminismo emergem como discussões ainda vagas e superficiais,
que não parecem influenciar suas práxis, porém se apresentam para elas como questões que as
fazem refletir sobre suas situações atuais. Em contraposição, o discurso naturalizante ainda é
adotado por elas e influencia diretamente na forma como realizam suas atividades diárias e
como compreendem suas responsabilidades e as de seus cônjuges na relação familiar e na
distribuição das obrigações domésticas. Em suma, os resultados mostram que, mesmo com a
instrução formal e a independência financeira das mulheres, os papéis femininos na
conjugalidade têm sofrido poucas modificações com relação ao acúmulo de responsabilidades
que recaem sobre elas. A crença em uma suposta natureza feminina perpassa a experiência
vivida dessas mulheres na maternidade, na relação conjugal e no mercado de trabalho,
indicando que ainda há diversos obstáculos à resolução dos problemas sociais que atravessam
a história de vida dessas mulheres.
