Previous issue date: 2008-09-26 / In this research we intend to study the identification process which is characteristic of contemporaneity. Interest in this topic has arisen from the belief that apparatuses today which confer values such as family, religion, sex and socio-economical status lose their power of expressing who the individual is. What is gradually becoming central to the subjective experience today are attitudes which pertain caring for the body. The latter takes on a great and important value in social relations. Our work consists of a theoretical study based upon psychoanalysis on identification. In other words, we begin by discussing the constitutive aspects pertaining to the construction process of an identity, considering the fundamental reference to the body. This paper contains three
chapters: in the first one we deal with the issue of the body s centrality, the
overvaluation of an aesthetic pattern of thinness, youth and body perfection and
the connection between this perfect body with the possibility of happiness. In
addition, we see indistinctly the mutant character of the body, which loses the
statute of fatality conditioning the individual s life. The body now becomes a reality
which can be transformed according to the individual s will. In the second chapter
we shall address the matter of visibility intrinsically connected to the ideal of a
young and slim body, since the individual s recognition depends on how others
see them, once the individual s worth is defined by their appearance. In the third
chapter we shall address the Freudian theory of identification, considering two
levels of analyses, the first pertaining the cultural ideals and the latter
relationships with peers. We have concluded that the identification process in
contemporaneity is less driven by the cultural ideals than by how individuals are
seen by peers, considering that body appearance becomes the principle of social
relevance.
Keywords: identification, psychoanalysis, body, visibility, contemporaneity. / Nesta pesquisa, pretende-se estudar a identificação característica da contemporaneidade. Este interesse apareceu por se considerar que hoje as instâncias doadoras de valores como família, religião, sexo e status socioeconômico perdem o poder de dizer quem o sujeito é. Hoje o que se torna central para a experiência subjetiva são as práticas referentes aos cuidados com o corpo. Este assume um valor de grande importância nas relações sociais. Este trabalho consiste de um estudo teórico fundamentado na Psicanálise acerca da identificação. Sua origem está em um questionamento sobre aspectos do processo de constituição do eu, considerando a referência fundamental ao corpo. O trabalho é composto de cinco capítulos, incluindo a introdução, no segundo dos quais se cuida da questão da centralidade do corpo, supervalorização de um padrão estético de magreza, juventude e perfeição corporal, e ligação deste corpo perfeito com a possibilidade de felicidade. Além disso, entrevê-se o caráter mutante do corpo, que perde o estatuto de fatalidade, condicionando a vida do indivíduo. Agora o corpo se constitui em realidade que pode ser transformada de acordo a vontade do indivíduo.No terceiro segmento, trata-se da questão da visibilidade intrinsecamente ligada ao ideal de corpo jovem e magro, pois o
rec nhecimento do sujeito depende do olhar do outro, uma vez que o valor do sujeito se define pela sua aparência. No quarto módulo, aborda-se a teoria freudiana da identificação, considerando dois níveis de análises, quais sejam, um relativo aos ideais culturais e outro às relações com semelhantes. Concluímos (quinto capítulo) que, na contemporaneidade, a identificação é menos orientada pelos ideais culturais do que pelo olhar do semelhante, na medida em que a aparência do corpo se torna o princípio da pertinência social.
