Previous issue date: 2009-12-22 / This research aims to understand the search for the perfect female body, through the
processes of siliconizing and hormonizing, and its implications for the health of
transvestites. The study is justified by the need to clarify the health professionals
about the specifics of this social segment, filled with prejudice and discrimination,
which it is not known in depth the field of public health and society. In general,
studies of the transvestites in the field of public health, focusing on contamination by
the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV / AIDS), as if this were the most common problem or only faced by them. Transvestites change your body using female hormones and silicone industry. These procedures are performed without professional supervision and indiscriminately, causing damage to their health. The research is qualitative in nature and employs the ethnographic method. Our research has an interventionist nature, the result is the production of a DVD class directed to health professionals, so that they better understand the universe and transvestite humanize care for these patients. With this study, we contribute to the development of Public Policies aimed at the health needs of transvestites. / A presente pesquisa objetiva compreender a busca do corpo feminino perfeito, por meio dos processos de siliconização e hormonização, e suas implicações para a saúde das travestis. O estudo justifica-se pela necessidade de esclarecer os profissionais de saúde sobre as especificidades desse segmento social, marcado pelo preconceito e a discriminação, cuja realidade não é conhecida, em profundidade, pelo campo da saúde coletiva e pela sociedade. Em geral, os estudos sobre as travestis no campo da saúde coletiva, centram-se na contaminação pela Síndrome da Imunodeficiência Adquirida (SIDA/HIV), como se este fosse o problema mais frequente ou o único enfrentado por elas. As travestis modificam seu corpo utilizando hormônios femininos e silicone industrial. Esses procedimentos são realizados sem acompanhamento profissional e de forma
indiscriminada, provocando agravos à saúde dessa população. A pesquisa é de natureza qualitativa e emprega o método etnográfico. Nossa investigação tem um caráter intervencionista, cujo resultado é a elaboração de um DVD aula direcionado aos profissionais da saúde, afim de que eles compreendam melhor o universo travesti e humanizem o atendimento a essas pacientes. Com esse estudo, podemos contribuir para o desenvolvimento de Políticas Públicas de saúde voltadas às necessidades das travestis.
