Previous issue date: 2011-11-11 / Publications blame Northeastern mothers of neglect, contributing to preventable deaths of their children. Medical anthropology is depth in the speeches of grieve mothers. The
mourning was divided into three times in maternal narratives: past, present and future for more objective analysis. After transcription, all narratives were coded by The Ethnograph v6. The local culture own meanings were categorized by critical discourse analysis (CDA). By narrating the past, mothers were moved remembering the last moments of their children's lives and showed to keep relics of their dead children. They imagine a heavenly future meeting with the dead children, now angels. Unlike the selective neglect, the apparent coldness indicates the trajectory of the trauma narrative. An emotional detachment in old interviews were observed, but as another feature of the trauma narrative. A possible heavenly retrieve with the child reveals the continued sentimental mother s investments in the children. The narrative time of mourning is the better ethnographic evidence produced against the theory of maternal neglect. / Publicações acusam mães nordestinas de negligência, contribuindo para mortes evitáveis de suas crianças. A partir da antropologia médica, aprofundou-se nas falas das mães sobre o luto de seus filhos em três tempos: passado, presente e futuro para analise mais objetiva. Após transcrição, todas foram codificadas pelo programa The Ethnograph v6. Categorizaram-se significados próprios à cultura local pela análise do discurso crítica (CDA). Narrando o passado, emocionaram-se ao recordar dos últimos momentos de vida de seus filhos e guardam até hoje relíquias das crianças. Percebe-se desapego emocional nas entrevistas antigas, característica do trauma na narrativa. No futuro as mães visualizam um reencontro com anjos revelando a possibilidade de continuidade do investimento sentimental das mães para com os filhos, pela ideia de que seus filhos estão em outro lugar, rogando por seus pais. A narrativa do luto no tempo é a maior evidencia etnográfica que se produz contra a teoria da negligencia materna.
