Previous issue date: 2018-09-12 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work had as main objective to understand how the Villa Alterosa of Juí, spiritual seat of the
Brotherhood of Santa Cruz, is inserted in the contemporary process of urbanization in the Amazon,
from its internal dynamics and its role in the urban grid. For this we use a mixed methodology,
concomitantly incorporating different methods, having as main the qualitative method and by
secondary the quantitative. Data collection procedures involved the search for primary and
secondary data, which was done through bibliographical research, data collection in public and
private institutions, field observations, and formal and informal interviews. The results indicate that
the village reflects the general process of urbanization, and it is possible to identify the
contradictions of rural / urban. The set of relationships triggered by the centrality of the
Brotherhood, the commercialization of production and the offer of services, make the village
assume relevance in the dynamics of the local and regional urban grid. Getting to articulate what we
call the Middle Rio Içá. / Este trabalho teve como objetivo principal compreender como a Vila Alterosa do Juí, sede
espiritual da Irmandade da Santa Cruz, se insere no processo contemporâneo de urbanização na
Amazônia, a partir da sua dinâmica interna e do seu papel na rede urbana. Para tal utilizamos uma
metodologia mista, incorporando concomitantemente diferentes métodos, tendo por principal o
método qualitativo e por secundário o quantitativo. Os procedimentos de coleta de dados
envolveram a busca de dados primários e secundários, o que se deu por meio da realização de
pesquisas bibliográficas, levantamento de dados em instituições públicas e privadas, observações
em campo e a realização de entrevistas formais e informais. Os resultados indicam que a vila
reflete o processo geral de urbanização, sendo possível identificar as contradições do rural/urbano.
O conjunto de relações desencadeadas pela centralidade da Irmandade, a comercialização da
produção e a oferta de serviços, fazem com que a vila assuma relevância na dinâmica da rede
urbana local e regional. Chegando a articular o que denominamos de Médio Rio Içá.
