entre os anos de 1967 e 1968 e protagonizado por Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Tom Zé e
pela banda de rock paulista Os Mutantes. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é contribuir com o debate
a respeito do caráter político da Tropicália, sob a perspectiva da Comunicação Social. Trata-se de
discutir o posicionamento político dos tropicalistas, tendo em vista sua integração nas estruturas da
indústria cultural brasileira, especialmente a televisão, e o contexto político-social do regime
autoritário da época. Especificamente, busca-se compreender o sentido político da narrativa
tropicalista, considerando a temática da vida cotidiana brasileira do final dos anos 1960. Estaríamos de
fato falando de uma contra hegemonia ou de mais uma forma de neutralização de conflitos políticos e
contradições sociais? Para fins de alcance do objeto proposto, o principal referencial metodológico
desta pesquisa é a Economia Política da Comunicação e da Cultura. A Tropicália enquanto expressão
cultural-midiática será um objeto de estudo articulado com os elementos políticos e econômicos de seu
contexto histórico / This master thesis focuses on the tropicalist media-cultural movement that took place in Brazil
between 1967 and 1968 and starred Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Tom Zé and the São Paulo
rock band “Os Mutantes”. The main objective of this work is to contribute with the debate about the
political role of Tropicália, from the perspective of the Social Communication. Our purpose is to discuss
the political position of tropicalists, considering their integration into the structures of Brazilian cultural
industry, especially television, and the social political context of the authoritarian regime of the time.
Specifically, we seek to understand the political meaning of the tropicalist narrative, considering the
Brazilian daily life theme of the late 1960s. Would we really be talking about a counter hegemony or
another way of neutralizing political conflicts and social contradictions? In order to reach the proposed
object, the main methodological reference of this research is the Political Economy of Communication
and Culture. Tropicália as a cultural-mediatic expression will be an object of study articulated with the
political and economic elements of its historical context
