Previous issue date: 1996-04-11 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq, Brasil / A região cacaueira da Bahia, localizada no sudeste do estado, vem passando por transformações de ordem política, sócio-econômica e ambiental, verificando-se uma tendência irreversível à diversificação agropecuária, após muitas décadas de monocultura do cacau (Theobroma cacao L.). Na medida em que outras alternativas agricolas substituem o cacau, cultura sabidamente conservacionista, aumentam as preocupações quanto aos impactos sobre os solos. Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar os efeitos de quatro coberturas vegetais mata, cacau, seringal e pasto) sobre propriedades químicas, físicas e biológicas em diferentes profundidades (O-lO, 10-20 e 20-40 cm) de um Podzólico Vermelho-Amarelo eutrófico, no Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau (CEPEC), na região cacaueira da Bahia. Com base nas condições estudadas, os resultados mostraram que: as coberturas vegetais consideradas não promoveram grandes alterações nos atributos do podzólico estudado; o histórico de uso com intensas atividades na área sob cacau e de sub-utilização , em grande parte do tempo, na área sob pasto, revelam que estas não representam os padrões de manejo adotados na região; recomenda-se o desenvolvimento de estudos semelhantes, incluindo o cacau cultivado em sistema de cabruca, e envolvendo outras potencialidades agrícolas da região como fruteiras, palmáceas, especiarias, cultivos anuais, essências florestais; como indicativo de pesquisas futuras, levanta-se a hipótese quanto às alterações sobre a agregação do solo, por influência do látex exsudado pelo sistema radicular das seringueiras durante seu crescimento; para a região em estudo, sugerem-se atividades agropecuárias baseadas em sistemas múltiplos, que mantenham a cobertura vegetal ao longo do ano, como a partir de sistemas agrossilviculturais. / The cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.), which is the main agricultural product of the Bahia State, Brazil, is usually considered to be a “conservationist crop”. However, there is now a irreversible trend to the farming diversification, associated with economical, social, political and environmental transformations in Southeast Bahia. With the adoption of alternatives crops the cocoa tree, there will certainly bc impacts to the soil system. This study was carried out in order to evaluate the effects of the four land uses (natural forest, cocoa tree, rubber tree and pasture) on chemical, physical and biological properties of the profile (O-lO, 10-20 and 20-40 cm) of an Eutrophic Red Yellow Podzolic (Alfisol), at the Cocoa Research Center (CEPEC). In the experimental conditions, the results showed that: the land uses studied have not caused significant changes in the Alfisol properties; the very intensive activities on the cocoa tree area and the subutilization on the pasture area, showed that this areas don't represent the regional management pattern; similar research will have to be carried on with others regional agricultural potentiality, including cocoa plantation in “cabruca” system, palm- tree, fruit-tree, spices, forestry and annual crop; to indicate future research, was annotate the hypothesis concerning the influences of the rubber tree roots exsudates helping the soil aggregation, during the growth of the root system; to the region was suggested agricultural activities with multicropping systems, like agroforestry systems. / CPF do autor não encontrado
