Previous issue date: 2008-07-10 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / The species of the genus Rhacodiaptomus were reviewed through the detailed
study of all the appendices. The specimens were obtained from scientific collections
and field samples. After the appointment of R. calamensis as the type-species of the
genus, the measurement, dissection and drawings of the appendices of the typespecies
were performed. Regarding the pther species of the genus, only the
appendices that were different from those found in species-type were drawn. The
software DeLTa-IntKey, version 1.04, was used for the generation of descriptions,
keys of identification and matrices of characthers. The softwares TNT and Windclada
were used to test the relationships between species, searching for he most
parcimonious tree. Six species of Rhacodiaptomus were re-described along with the
first description of the unknown female of R. calatus and a new species. A total of
448 items, among characters and attributes was listed with Delta and a matrix of 80
informative characters and with Nexus output was obtained. The outside-group
selected included Notodiaptomus deitersi, Aspinus acicularis and 8 species of
Argyrodiaptomus. The search revealed a tree with length (L) = 272, consistency
index (CI) = 0.52 and retention index (RI) = 0.72. The monophyly of Rhacodiaptmus
was supported by 28 synapomorphies and the relationships among the species are:
(Rhacodiaptomus calamensis (Rhacodiaptomus retroflexus (Rhacodiaptomus sp. n.
(Rhacodiaptomus calatus, Rhacodiaptomus ringueleti) (Rhacodiaptomus insolitus,
Rhacodiaptomus besti))))). Rhacodiaptomus calamensis is the most basal species
within the group. An updated record of distribution of each species has also been
done / As espécies do gênero Rhacodiaptomus foram revisadas através do estudo
detalhado da morfologia externa dos organismos. Foram analisados espécimes
provenientes tanto de coleções científicas quanto de novas coletas de campo. A
partir da designação de R. calamensis como espécie-tipo do gênero, seguiu-se a
mensuração, dissecção e desenho dos seus apêndices . Somente os apêndices que
foram diferentes daqueles encontrados na espécie-tipo foram desenhados para as
demais espécies. Para a geração das descrições, das chaves de identificação e da
matriz de caracteres foi utilizado o sistema DELTA-IntKey versão 1.04. Para
identificar as relações de parentesco entre as espécies foram utilizados os
programas TNT e Winclada. Seis espécies de Rhacodiaptomus foram redescritas e a
fêmea correta de R. calatus e uma nova espécie foram descritas. Quatrocentos e
quarenta e oito (448 itens), dentre caracteres e atributos foram listados utilizandoo
DELTA. Por meio do DELTA foi obtida uma matriz no formato Nexus com 80
caracteres informativos. A análise computacional foi feita com os programas TNT e
Winclada, com a busca pela árvore mais parcimoniosa. Os grupos externos
utilizados foram Notodiaptomus deitersi, Aspinus acicularis e oito (8) espécies de
Argyrodiaptomus. A busca revelou uma árvore, com comprimento (L) = 272, índice
de consistência (CI) = 0.52 e índice de retenção (RI) = 0.72. A monofilia do grupo foi
proposta suportada por 28 sinapomorfias e as relações indicadas para as espécies
são: (Rhacodiaptomus calamensis (Rhacodiaptomus retroflexus (Rhacodiaptomus
sp. n. (Rhacodiaptomus calatus, Rhacodiaptomus ringueleti) (Rhacodiaptomus
insolitus, Rhacodiaptomus besti)))). Rhacodiaptomus calamensis é a espécie mais
basal dentro do grupo. Um registro atualizado da distribuição de cada espécie
também foi feito.
