Os marmeleiros são utilizados mundialmente como porta-enxertos para pereiras. Dentre os principais motivos para o seu uso, destacam-se, a redução no porte das plantas, a precocidade de produção e a boa qualidade dos frutos. Porém, apresentam afinidade irregular com as pereiras, muito variável em função da cultivar. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento dos marmeleiros como porta-enxertos de pereira, durante os primeiros anos após o plantio, nas condições de Vacaria, RS. O pomar foi implantado na Estação Experimental de Fruticultura Temperada da Embrapa Uva e Vinho. Foi estudado o comportamento de ‘Abate Fetel’ e ‘Rocha’ enxertadas sobre os marmeleiros ‘Adam’s’, ‘Ba-29’, ‘EMA’ e ‘EMC’. Foram avaliados aspectos relativos ao vigor, produção, hábito fenológico, ramificação, compatibilidade de enxertia, nutrição e crescimento de brotos e frutos. Diferenças foram observadas entre as duas pereiras. ‘Rocha’ mostrou-se superior a ‘Abate Fetel’ em relação a ramificação, peso de poda, número de cachos florais por planta, taxa de frutificação efetiva, produção e eficiência produtiva, e teor foliar de cálcio e magnésio. Já a ‘Abate Fetel’ foi superior a ‘Rocha’ quanto ao número de brindilas florais e lamburdas, massa médias dos frutos, área foliar e teor de potássio em folhas. Porta-enxertos também induziram diferenças signicativas entre si. ‘Adam’s’ induziu maior concentração foliar de nitrogênio, além de maior vigor. Na ‘Rocha’, ‘Adam’s’ induziu maior produção que os demais. Para a mesma cultivar, a combinação com ‘EMA’ mostrou sintomas de incompatibilidade, além de proporcionar maior firmeza de polpa e menor teor de sólidos solúveis. Como conclusão, ‘Rocha’ apresenta melhor desempenho agronômico e ‘Adam’s’ é o marmeleiro que induz maior vigor e produção para as condições dos Campos de Cima da Serra, RS. / Quinces are used worldwide as rootstocks for pears. Among the main reasons for its use the reduction of plant size, the early fruit bearing and good quality of its fruits stand out. However, quinces present irregular affinity with pear trees, which is highly variable depending on the cultivar. Therefore, the objective of the present work was to evaluate the behavior of quinces as rootstocks for pear trees along the initial years of planting at conditions of Vacaria, RS. The experimental unit was implanted at the Estação Experimental de Vacaria/Embrapa Uva e Vinho. The behavior of ‘Abate Fetel’ and ‘Rocha’ pears grafted onto quinces ‘Adams’, ‘BA-29’and ‘EMA’ were evaluated with regards to vigor, yield, phenology, sprouting and branching, graft compatibility, nutritional status and fruit development. Differences were determined in relation to pear cultivars: ‘Rocha’ indicated to be superior to ‘Abate Fetel’ in relation to branching, weight of pruned wood, number of floral clusters per tree, fruit set, yields and productivity and, as well, leaf contents of calcium and magnesium. On the contrary, ‘Abate Fetel’ showed its superiority concerning fruit bearing branches, average fruit weight, leaf area and potassium contents of the leaves. The different rootstock also did induce differences. Pears grafted onto ‘Adams’ presented higher foliar nitrogen and greater vigor. ‘Rocha’ pears on ‘Adams’ were more productive in comparison to the other cultivar-rootstock combinations. The ‘EMA’ rootstock presented incompatibility indications with both pear cultivars, though its fruit were firmer but had lower soluble solids contents. In conclusion, the cultivar Rocha performs better agronomically while the rootstock ‘Adams’ induces higher vigor and production at the conditions of the highlands of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
