Operações que visam à conservação e à adequação de edifícios de uso público considerados patrimônio são controversas. Porém a polêmica aumenta quando se tratam de conjuntos habitacionais com estas características, pois as medidas de conservação raramente convergem os interesses dos moradores e dos órgãos patrimoniais. Muitos dos imóveis que passam por este processo atualmente são exemplares emblemáticos para o Movimento Moderno no Brasil. Este trabalho busca, portanto, discorrer a respeito da adaptação de edifícios de habitação coletiva modernistas para o uso contemporâneo e as dificuldades e peculiaridades destas operações. A fim de ilustrar a conservação destas tipologias no Brasil, foram eleitos três exemplares como casos de estudo: Pedregulho, Copan e Jaguaribe. Com o propósito de ponderar tanto o valor de uso quanto a salvaguarda, foram estudadas as tradicionais teorias do restauro, mas também abordagens mais inovadoras sobre o tema. Além disso, as visitas e entrevistas realizadas com moradores de todos os conjuntos contribuíram para a melhor compreensão destas arquiteturas e da difícil tarefa de nelas intervir. / Operations that aim at the conservation and adequacy of buildings of public use considered as patrimony are controversial. But the controversy increases when it comes to housing estates with these characteristics, because conservation measures rarely converge the interests of residents and departments that regulate the protection of heritage. Many of the properties that go through this process are currently emblematic examples for the Modern Movement in Brazil. This work therefore seeks to discuss the adaptation of modernist collective housing buildings to the contemporary use and the difficulties and peculiarities of these operations. In order to illustrate the conservation of these typologies in Brazil, three examples were selected as case studies: Pedregulho, Copan and Jaguaribe. In order to consider both use-value and safeguard, orthodox theories of restoration were studied, as well as innovative approaches to the subject. In addition, visits and interviews with residents of all sets contributed to a better understanding of these architectures and the difficult task of intervening in them.
