Tendo como pano de fundo a teoria da modernização reflexiva, esta pesquisa procurou compreender o processo de autoexpatriação de psicólogos brasileiros no contexto canadense tendo em vista as fronteiras presentes. Para isso se buscou: descrever quem são e os motivos da autoexpatriação de psicólogos brasileiros ao Canadá, caracterizar o processo de autoexpatriação; evidenciar as fronteiras visíveis e invisíveis ao psicólogo brasileiro autoexpatriado no Canadá. Por tal razão, foi realizada uma pesquisa científica do tipo qualitativo com caráter exploratório, através de entrevistas individuais em profundidade com 12 psicólogas brasileiras, autoexpatriadas, que estavam no Canadá e tinham autorização de trabalho. O tema e contexto revelaram-se complexos, especialmente no que tange às fronteiras, consideradas neste estudo como visíveis (limites ou limitadores de qualquer ordem ou origem que estão mais facilmente identificáveis) e invisíveis (limites ou limitadores de qualquer ordem ou origem que normalmente estão ocultos, não necessariamente à tona e, portanto, inesperados). Apresentaram-se como fronteiras visíveis: o processo de vistos e documentação junto ao consulado; a equivalência de diplomas por instituição credenciada no governo canadense para tal e os custos em geral que estavam associados a traduções, passagens aéreas, seguro saúde e etc. As fronteiras invisíveis identificadas revelaram-se intrincadas e atravessadas por elementos diferentes, trazendo uma diversidade de dados que foram categorizados em: aspectos da inserção profissional do autoexpatriado psicólogo no Canadá, aspectos educacionais e teóricos da profissão (tendências teóricas diferentes, formação educacional adicional ou recomeço para o estrangeiro), aspectos culturais (sobreposição e conflito de culturas). Num período de inseguranças e incertezas, as fronteiras aparecem como múltiplas e mutáveis, sendo discutidas no tocante ao estabelecimento, à manutenção e aos efeitos de inclusão e exclusão gerados por elas nos sujeitos da pesquisa. A discussão contribui para a reflexão da autoexpatriação como um fenômeno que não se resume à carreira, ao tempo de permanência no exterior ou à automotivação do sujeito, mas permite conhecer um pouco da dinamicidade dos elementos que se associam ao processo com contexto e sujeitos específicos num momento histórico. / Based on the theory of reflexive modernization, this research sought to understand the process of self-initiated expatriation of Brazilian psychologists in the Canadian context considering the present boundaries. The purpose of this study was: to describe the reasons and who are the Brazilian psychologists self-initiated expatriates in Canada, to characterize the self-initiated expatriation process; to evidence the visible and invisible boundaries of the Brazilian psychologist self-initiated expatriates in Canada. For this reason, a qualitative scientific research was carried out with an exploratory character, with in-depth individual interviews of 12 Brazilian psychologists who were self-initiated expatriates in Canada and all had work permits. The theme and context were complex, especially with regards to boundaries, which are considered in this study as visible (limits or limiters of any order or origin that are more easily identifiable) and invisible (limits or limiters of any order or origin that are normally hidden, not necessarily afloat and therefore unexpected). The visible borders were: the visa process and documentation with the consulate; the equivalence of diplomas by accredited institution by the Canadian government and the general costs that were associated with translations, airplane tickets, health insurance and etc. The invisible boundaries identified were intricated and intersected by different elements, bringing a diversity of data that were categorized as: aspects of the professional insertion of psychologist self-initiated expatriates in Canada, educational and theoretical aspects of the profession (different theoretical trends, additional educational background or new start); cultural aspects (overlap and conflict of cultures). In a period of insecurities and uncertainties, boundaries appear as multiple and changeable, being discussed in terms of establishment, maintenance and the effects of inclusion and exclusion generated by them in the research subjects. This discussion contributes to the reflection of self-initiated expatriation as a phenomenon that is not limited to the career, the time of permanence abroad or the self-motivation of the subject, but allows to know a little of the dynamicity of the elements that are associated with the process, with context and with specific subjects in a historical moment.
