Trata o presente estudo de uma pesquisa descritiva, desenvolvida em um hospital de ensino na cidade de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, durante o mês de fevereiro de 1981, tendo como população - alvo os elementos da equipe de enfermagem, que passamos a denominar AGENTE DE ENFERMAGEM. Foram aplicados noventa e nove instrumentos de observação, com o oBjetivo de verificar: 1) a frequência de interações entre o Agente de Enfermagem e a Cliente Obstétrica durante os procedimentos de admissão para o parto; 2) se o tempo empregado e o numero de agentes modificam a interação entre o Agente de Enfermagem e a Cliente Obstétrica; e 3) se a quantidade de tempo, em mi nutos, influi no numero de interações. Os dados foram analisados, utilizando- se as estatísticas de frequência, percentual, teste exato de Fischer e o teste de qui-quadrado . Pelos resultados da análise dos dados obtidos, verificou- se que: a) há associação entre os diversos aspectos observados e o tipo de interação ocorrida; b) não há associação entre as variáveis t empo e tipo de interação; c) há associação quando consideramos o tempo, o tipo de interação e o numero de Agentes; e d) não há associação entre o número das interações completas e as variáveis tempo e Agente de Enfermagem. / The present study deals with a descriptive research developed at a teaching hospital in Porto Alegre - Rio Grande do Sul, during the month of February, 1981, having as its target population the elements of the nursing team, which we shall hereinafter call NURSING AGENT. Ninety-nine instruments of observation were applied, to t he purpose of establishing: 1) the frequancy of interactions between the Nursing Agent and the Obstetric Client during hospitaladmission procedures for labor; 2) whether interaction between Nursing Agent and Obstetric Client is modified by the time empl oyed and number of Agents; and 3) whet her the amount of time, in minutes, affects the number of interactions. The data was analyzed t hrough the use of statistics of recurrence, percentage, Fischer's exact test and chisquare test . Anal ysis of the data s hows that: a) there is association between the several aspects observed and t he type of performed interaction; b) there is no association between variables time and type of interaction; c) ther e is as sociation when time, type of interaction and number of Agents are considered; and d) there is no association between the number of completed interactions and variabl es time and Nursing Agent.
