Previous issue date: 2015-02-27 / CAPES / Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa desenvolvida na cidade do Recife
sobre a identificação dos exemplares do estilo Art Déco, cujos edifícios são tomados
como vestígio arqueológico através da abordagem da Arqueologia da Arquitetura, dentro
de um bojo maior, da Arqueologia social. Por meio do estudo e da análise de atributos da
cultura material dos edifícios, busca-se entender a antiga paisagem do início do século
XX quando esteve em voga e era símbolo de modernização e de status e explicar como o
estilo se difundiu desde os bairros centrais, mais antigos e se adaptou à medida que foi se
dispersando pela cidade. O ponto de partida foram levantamentos realizados pela autora e
seus alunos de duas faculdades particulares de Arquitetura do Recife ao longo de quinze
anos. Foi elaborada uma Base de Dados que identificou seiscentos e oitenta e três
edifícios, com vinte e três tipos de funções, as primitivas quando possível. Eles se
encontram em quarenta bairros, distribuídos por todas as regiões da cidade. São obras de
arquitetos, engenheiros, projetistas e de pessoas que nunca estudaram Arquitetura.
Pertencem a todas as classes sociais. Foram construídos entre 1919 e 1961 e apresentam
especificidades que fazem com que não possam ser enquadrados nas classificações para o
estilo feitas por autores brasileiros, por causa do panorama diferente encontrado. / This work presents the results of the research developed in the city of Recife on the
identification of copies of the Art Déco style, which buildings are taken as archaeological
vestige, through the approach of Archaeology of Architecture, within a larger flare, Social
Archaeology. Through the study and analysis of attributes of material culture, we seek to
understand the ancient landscape of the early 20th century, when it was in vogue and was
a symbol of modernization and status and explain how the style has spread from the older
central districts and adapted as it was dispersing across the city. The starting point were
surveys conducted by the author and his students from two private colleges of
Architecture in Recife over fifteen years. A Database was prepared, which identified six
hundred eighty-three buildings, with twenty-three types of functions (the primitive, in so
far as possible). They are in forty districts, spread across all regions of the city. They are
works of architects, engineers, designers and people who have never studied Architecture.
They belong to all social classes. They were built between 1919 and 1961 and have
special features which make can not be framed in the rankings for style made by brazilian
authors, because of the panorama found.
