Previous issue date: 2015-12-01 / A história e o retrato atual da expansão do ensino superior privado no Brasil nos mostra que as modificações provenientes do cenário de inserção afetaram em diferentes graus as Instituições e principalmente as pessoas que ali trabalham. Os desafios postos no contexto de atuação dos dirigentes dessas organizações sugerem a necessidade de uma gestão eficiente capaz de garantir a sustentabilidade institucional. As reflexões sobre as mudanças ocorridas na atuação de dirigentes acadêmicos e os impactos dessa atuação torna a problemática relevante no campo da Administração. O presente trabalho teve o objetivo de identificar a associação entre as variáveis que envolvem o perfil dos Diretores Acadêmicos das Instituições de Ensino Superior privadas do Estado de Pernambuco com as variáveis do desempenho das instituições que dirigem. Para essa investigação, realizou-se uma pesquisa quantitativa e com meios de investigação que a classificam como uma pesquisa exploratória, apoiada em análise de documentos publicados tanto pelo Ministério da Educação e sua Autarquia INEP, quanto por informações disponibilizadas na Plataforma Lattes do CNPq pelos próprios dirigentes como também outras publicações jornalísticas. Para o tratamento dos dados, foram utilizadas análises estatísticas. Os resultados obtidos indicam que desempenho acadêmico das IES privadas de Pernambuco, seu desempenho mercadológico e a produtividade interna parecem ser três dimensões independentes do sucesso de uma IES. / The history and the current picture of the expansion of private higher education in Brazil shows that the changes from the insertion scenario affected in different degrees the Institutions and especially the people who work there. The challenges posed in the context of action of the leaders of these organizations suggest the need for an efficient management capable of ensuring institutional sustainability. The reflections on the changes in the performance of academic leaders and the impacts of these activities makes the issue relevant in the field of Administration. This study aimed to identify the association between the variables involving the profile of Academic Directors of private Higher Education Institutions of the State of Pernambuco with the performance variables of the institutions they manage. For this research, it was carried out a quantitative study with a research methodology that qualify it as an exploratory research, based on analysis of documents published by both the Ministry of Education and its Autarchy INEP, as well as information available on the Lattes Platform from CNPq by the leaders themselves and also in other newspaper publications. For the treatment of data, statistical analyzes. The results indicate that academic performance of private institutions of Pernambuco, its market performance and internal productivity appear to be three independent dimensions of success of an Institute of Higher Education.
