The present study is a taxonomical treatment of the species of Euphorbiaceae Juss. from Three
areas of the Caxiuanã National Forest (l03()' e 2o30' S; 51015' e 52" 15' W), situated in the
northem region of Brazil, State of Pará, at the municipalities of Portei and Melgaço. The two
first ones, localized in Portei, is the permanent parcel of the Research Program in Biodiversity
- PPBio (01o58'58" S; 51038T6" W). It is a grid of 25 km2 divided into 30 parcels, in which
there areb sub parcels of 250 x 40 m, where the collections were carried out narrow river
Caquajó (0lo57'37"S; 5 l037'52"W). The third area is the Ferreira Penna Research Station -
ECFP (Io 30' e Io 50' S; 51° 15' a 51° 45' W), localized at Melgaço. In grid the collection
methodology followed the rules of the PPBio, which states that the collections should be done
in 20 m of both sides of the sub parcel. In the other areas the collections followed the
traditional techniques: according to the visualization of specimens. For the analysis and
taxonomical Identification of the specimens there were used the usual techniques, the
experience of the adviser, consults by other specialists and specialized literature. Seventeen
species, distributed in 12 genera, nime tribes and five subfamilies were identified. The
subfamily Euphorbioideae and the genus Mabea Aublet were the most representatives. Mabea
angularis Hollander is newly recorded for the State of Pará. Identification keys, descriptions
of genera and species, illustrations, taxonomical comments, as well as additional notes on the
phenology, uses, traditional names, and comments on the distribution of the species are given.
Geographical distribution maps of the species are presented as well. / O presente trabalho refere-se ao tratamento taxonômico das espécies de Euphorbiaceae Juss.
coletadas em três áreas da Floresta Nacional de Caxiuanã (103(T e 203(F S; 51015' e 52015'
W), a qual localiza-se na região Norte do Brasil, estado do Pará, nos municípios de Portei e
Melgaço. As duas primeiras, localizadas no município de Portei, a parcela permanente do
Programa de Pesquisa em Biodiversidade - PPBio (01o58'58" S; 51038T6" W), uma grade de
25 km2 dividida em 30 parcelas, dentro das quais localizam-se sub-parcelas de 250 x 40 m e o
igarapé Caquajó (0lo57'37"S; 5 l037'52"W). A terceira área é a Estação Científica Ferreira
Penna - ECFP (Io 30' e Io 50' S; 51° 15' a 51° 45' W), localizada no município de Melgaço. Na
grade, a metodologia de coleta está de acordo com as normas do PPBio, ou seja, coletando-se
na faixa de 20 m de cada lado da sub-parcela. Nas outras áreas, a coleta foi conforme as
técnicas usuais em taxonomia, ou seja, de acordo com a visualização dos espécimes. Para a
análise e identificação taxonômica dos exemplares coletados, foram utilizadas técnicas usuais,
experiência do orientador, consulta a outros especialistas e literatura especializada.
Identificou-se 17 espécies, distribuídas em 12 gêneros, nove tribos e cinco subfamílias. A
subfamília Euphorbioideae e o gênero Mabea Aublet foram os mais representativos. Mabea
angularis Hollander é citada pela primeira vez para o Estado do Pará. São apresentadas chaves
de identificação, descrições dos gêneros e espécies, ilustrações, comentários taxonômicos,
assim como notas adicionais sobre a fenologia, usos, nomes vulgares e comentários sobre a
distribuição das espécies nos diferentes ambientes observados. São também apresentados
mapas de distribuição geográfica para as espécies analisadas.
