The results of a taxonomic study about the Rubiaceae of the APA of Algodoal/Maiandeua are
presented (Northeast of the State of Pará). One of the most representative families in
sandcoast and important for the understanding of this and other ecosystems. This taxon is
represented in the study region, until at the moment, for about 17 species, distributed in 15
genus. The methodology employed consisted of the rehydration and dissect of the herborized
material, deposited in MG and IAN Herbarium, proceeding firom the APA of Algodoal,
resulting of more than 10 years of floristic research in the study place. For the verification of
some new register in ecosystem, collections in October of 2006 and February of 2007 had
been carried. After that, the samples had been measured, described and drawn in clear
chamber. A taxonomic key was elaborated, to facilitate the identification of the species. In
this study, commentaries on the species had been added. In sandcoast of the APA of
Algodoal/Maiaundeua, with relation to the species richness, taxa as the subfamilies
Cinchonoideae and Rubioideae had not presented significant differences, being nine in first
and eight in second. The supertribe Ixoridinae was best represented with six species, three in
each others. The tribes with more species had been Gardenieae, with four species and
Spermacoceae, three. The genus Guettarda and Psychotria had been with two species each
one, in the another genus with one each. In the initial survey, carried through at MG and IAN
herbarium, 23 species in 15 genus consisted. Six of them were incorrectly identified. Three
had been sinonimized, Alihertia myrciifolia K. Sch., Psychotria harhiflora DC. and Tocoyena
spmcei Standl.. Four have medicinal importance, Alihertia ediilis (Rich.) A. Rich. ex DC.,
Borreria verlieiHaia (L.) G. Mey., Guettarda angélica Mart. ex Müll. Arg. and Posoqueria
latifolia (Rudge) Roem. & Schult.. Psychotria hoffmannseggiana (Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.)
M. Arg. is related to the poisoning of the cattle and Tocoyena brasiliensis Mart. can be used
as fungicidal in agriculture. The species of Rubiaceae are more concentrate in the formation
of Myrtaceae's Forest, diminishing, in number of species, in direction to the beach. The
species Guettarda spruceana M. Arg., Oldenlandia íenuis K. Schum., Posoqueria latifolia
(Rudge) Roem. & Schult. and Retiniphyllum schomhurgkii (Benth.) M. Arg. they are new
registers for the APA of Algodoal/Maiandeua. Established in bibliographic research, about the
17 species cited here, seven still occur in Brazilian others sandcoast, being of Rio de Janeiro
that one that in common presents the biggest number of species with the APA of
Algodoal/Maiandeua. / São apresentados os resultados de um estudo taxonômico sobre as Rubiaceae da APA de
Algodoal/Maiandeua (Nordeste do Estado do Pará). Trata-se de uma das mais representativas
famílias nas restingas dessa região e importante para a compreensão desse e de outros
ecossistemas. Este táxon está representado no local de estudo, até o momento, por cerca de 17
espécies, distribuídas em 15 gêneros. A metodologia empregada consistiu-se na reidratação e
dissecação do material herborizado, depositado nos Herbários MG e IAN, proveniente da
APA de Algodoal, resultado de mais de 10 anos de levantamentos florísticos realizados no
local de estudo. Para a verificação de algum novo registro nesta restinga, foram realizadas
coletas em outubro de 2006 e fevereiro de 2007. Em seguida, as amostras foram mensuradas,
descritas e desenhadas em câmara clara. Uma chave taxonômica foi elaborada, para facilitar a
identificação das espécies. No trabalho foram adicionados comentários sobre as espécies. Na
restinga da APA de Algodoal/Maiaundeua, com relação à riqueza de espécies, os taxa pertencentes às subfamílias Cinchonoideae e Rubioideae não apresentaram diferenças significativas, sendo nove na primeira e oito na segunda. A supertribo Lxoridinae foi a melhor representada com seis espécies, as demais com três. As tribos com o maior número de espécies foram Gardenieae, com quatro e Spermacoceae, com três. Os gêneros Guettarda e Psychotria apresentaram duas espécies cada um, os demais gêneros apenas uma. No
levantamento inicial, realizado nos herbários MG e IAN, constavam 23 espécies em 15 gêneros. Seis delas estavam incorretamente identificadas. Três foram sinonimizadas, Alibertia myrciifolia K. Sch., Psychotria harhiflora DC. e Tocoyena spmcei Standl.. Quatro têm importância medicinal: Alibertia edulis (Rich.) A. Rich. ex DC., Borreria verticillata (L.) G. Mey., Guettarda angélica Mart. ex Müll. Arg. e Posoqueria latifolia (Rudge) Roem. & Schult.. Psychotria hoffmannseggiana (Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) Muell. Arg. está relacionada à intoxicação do gado e Tocoyena brasiliensis Mart. pode ser utilizada como fungicida na agricultura. As espécies de Rubiaceae encontram-se mais concentradas na formação de Mata de Myrtaceae, diminuindo, em número de espécies, em direção à praia. As espécies Guettarda spruceana Muell. Arg., Oldenlandia tenuis K. Schum., Posoqueria latifolia (Rudge) Roem. & Schult. e Retiniphyllum schomburgkii (Benth.) M. Arg. são novos
registros para a APA de Algodoal/Maiandeua. Baseado no levantamento bibliográfico, das 17
espécies aqui citadas, sete ocorrem ainda em outras restingas brasileiras, sendo a do Rio de
Janeiro aquela que apresenta o maior número de espécies em comum com a APA de
Algodoal/Maiandeua.
