Previous issue date: 2010-02-23 / Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte / Created on 3 december 1997, the REMPLAC (Program for Assessment of Mineral
Potencial of the Continental Shelf), this porgram aimed to make the basic survey,
systematic geological and geophysical continental shelf, detail, at an appropriate scale,
sites geo-economic, and perform the analysis and evaluation of mineral deposits. The
REMPLAC should continue the efforts of Global Recognition Program of the Brazilian
Continental Margin REMAC closed in 1978, the operations Geophysical Sea
(GEOMAR) developed by the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation and the various
initiatives of the Program of Marine Geology and Geophysics (PGGM).
Despite the high interest on the Amazon platform, there is little information o their
morphology and sediment characterization, and in order to fill this gap, the present work
samples sedimentological point followed by seismic acquisition.
And the studies were to characterize the possible area of interest as being directly
influence by tides, which sediments are reworked throughout the platform featuring grain
angle with sharp corners, and the carbonate content increases as it approaches the
breakdown the platform, and the bodies found outside the foraminifera and mollusks.
However, diverging with organic matter that reduces its concentration as it moves away
from the coast. The seismic profiles do not get satisfactory results because of low visibility,

characterization of the area. / Criado em 3 de dezembro de 1997, o REMPLAC (Programa de Avalia??o da
Potencialidade Mineral da Plataforma Continental), teve como objetivos efetuar o
levantamento b?sico, sistem?tico, geol?gico-geof?sico da plataforma continental, detalhar
em escala apropriada, s?tios de interesses geoeconomicos; e efetuar a an?lise e a
avalia??o dos dep?sitos minerais. O REMPLAC dever? dar continuidade aos esfor?os
desenvolvidos pelo Programa de Reconhecimento Global da Margem Continental
Brasileira REMAC encerrado em 1978, pelas opera??es Geof?sicas do Mar (Geomar),
desenvolvidas pela Diretoria de Hidrografia e Navega??o e pelas diversas iniciativas do
Programa de Geologia e Geof?sica Marinha (PGGM).
Apesar do elevado interesse sobre a Plataforma Amaz?nica, existe pouca
informa??o sobre sua caracteriza??o morfo-sedimentar, e visando suprir essa lacuna, o
presente trabalho realizou coletas sedimentol?gicas pontuais seguido da aquisi??o
s?smica.
E com os estudos realizados foram poss?veis caracterizar a ?rea de interesse como
sendo influenciada diretamente pelas mar?s, os quais os sedimentos s?o retrabalhados
ao longo de toda a plataforma caracterizando gr?o angular com cantos agudos, e o teor
carbonato aumenta ? medida que se aproxima da queda da plataforma, e os organismos
encontrado fora os foramin?feros e os moluscos. Entretanto, divergindo com teor de
mat?ria org?nica que diminui sua concentra??o a medida que se afasta da costa.
Os perfis s?smicos n?o obtiveram resultados satisfat?rios em virtude da baixa
visibilidade, no entanto ao correlacionar com as amostras pontuais de sedimento, foram
poss?veis a caracteriza??o morfol?gica da ?rea.
