Considerando o fato de que a geodiversidade ? bastante visada pelo turismo, o geoturismo evidencia os aspectos do meio f?sico, muitas vezes negligenciados em detrimento a biodiversidade, e promove a divulga??o da informa??o do contexto geol?gico em uma linguagem acess?vel para o p?blico leigo ao interpretar o patrim?nio geol?gico que se revela atrativo tur?stico potencial e incita a conserva??o desses locais. Diante da potencialidade do geopatrim?nio que o munic?pio de Gurj?o/PB apresenta, ? necess?rio que se estabele?am medidas de planejamento para utiliza??o sustent?vel desses bens. Nessa perspectiva, o presente estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar os elementos da geodiversidade e seu papel com a viabilidade do turismo no munic?pio de Gurj?o/PB. Como objetivos espec?ficos: descrever os atrativos tur?sticos associados aos elementos da geodiversidade; apresentar a valora??o qualitativa e quantitativa dos geoss?tios; e identificar a percep??o da popula??o local (professores e moradores) quanto aos aspectos relacionados ao geoturismo, ?s poss?veis utiliza??es dos geoss?tios e os poss?veis efeitos socioecon?micos da atividade geotur?stica no munic?pio. Os procedimentos metodol?gicos tratados envolvem levantamento de dados em campo, aplica??o de formul?rios no invent?rio, elabora??o de planilhas e aplica??o de question?rios. Para a inventaria??o tur?stica, foram adotados formul?rios do ?Invent?rio da Oferta Tur?stica? (2011) do Minist?rio do Turismo. Os geoss?tios foram valorados qualitativamente atrav?s dos crit?rios propostos por Gray (2004). O m?todo desenvolvido por Pereira (2010) foi utilizado a fim de obter o valor em termos quantitativos dos geoss?tios com foco exclusivo nos valores tur?stico e de uso/gest?o. Para identificar a percep??o da popula??o local quanto aos poss?veis efeitos socioecon?micos do geoturismo foram realizadas duas abordagens para dois grupos; de professores e de moradores. A t?cnica utilizada para atingir o ?ltimo objetivo espec?fico do estudo foi a de entrevista com abordagem direta com a aplica??o de question?rios previamente elaborados. O invent?rio, valora??o e quantifica??o dos atrativos naturais evidenciaram que o geoturismo pode ser potencialmente desenvolvido em Gurj?o/PB, embora se tenha identificado v?rias lacunas em rela??o ? infraestrutura dos locais e a falta de interesse/conhecimento p?blico na prote??o e valoriza??o desses locais. Constata-se que a percep??o da popula??o local em rela??o aos poss?veis efeitos socioecon?micos do geoturismo no munic?pio de Gurj?o ? predominantemente positiva conjeturando os benef?cios que a atividade possa gerar, estando associado principalmente ? gera??o de novos empregos, aumento no n?mero de vagas, melhoria na infraestrutura da cidade, da qualidade de vida e da valoriza??o do patrim?nio local natural. Dessa forma, espera-se que a pesquisa contribua para ?o despertar? de moradores, gestores p?blicos e institui??es conscientes do valor da geodiversidade local e dos benef?cios que o geoturismo pode trazer. / It is through a holistic view of the environmental components that it can be achieved the most
effective way so it can occur a skillful planning of tourism which will provide the minimum
possible impact on the environment. Considering the fact that geodiversity is quite targeted by
tourism, geotourism highlights aspects of the physical environment, often neglected to the
detriment of biodiversity, and promotes the disclosure of the information of the geological
context in an accessible language to the lay public in interpreting geological patrimony that
reveals itself as a potential touristic attraction and encourages the conservation of these sites.
Given the geopatrimony capability that the municipality of Gurj?o / PB shows, it is necessary
to establish planning measures for sustainable use of the property. In that perspective, this study
has as its general objective to analyze the elements of geodiversity and its role in the viability
of tourism in the municipality of Gurj?o / PB. As specific objectives: describe the touristic
attractions associated to the geodiversity elements; present the qualitative and quantitative
valuation of geosites; and identify the perception of the local population (teachers and
residents) regarding the aspects related to geotourism, the ppossible uses of the geosites and the
possible socio-economic effects of the geoturistic activity in the municipality. The
methodological procedures that were used involve data collection in the field, application of
forms in the inventory, preparation of spreadsheets and application of questionnaires. For the
touristic inventorying, forms were adopted from the "Inventory of Touristic Offer" (2011) of
the Tourism Ministry. The geosites were valued qualitatively using the criteria proposed by
Gray (2004). The method developed by Pereira (2010) was used to obtain the value in
quantitative terms of the geosites with exclusive focus on the touristic and use/management
values. To identify the perception of the local population about the possible socio-economic
effects of geotourism it was performed two approaches to two groups; teachers and residents.
The technique utilized to achieve the last specific objective was the interview with a direct
approach with the application of previously elaborated questionnaires. The inventory, valuation
and quantification of the natural attractions evidenced that the geotourism can be potentially
developed in Gurj?o / PB, although it has been identified several gaps regarding the
infrastructure of the locations and the lack of public interest /knowledge in the protection and
appreciation of such sites. It is verified that the perception of the local population about the
possible socio-economic effects of geotourism in the municipality of Gurj?o is predominantly
positive conjecturing the benefits that the activity can generate, being primarily associated to
the generation of new jobs, increase in the number of vacancies, improvement of the city
infrastructure, quality of life and appreciation of the natural local heritage. Therefore, it is
expected that the research contribute to "the awakening" of residents, public managers and
institutions aware of the value of the local geodiversity and the benefits that the geoturism can
bring.
