Previous issue date: 2015-12-15 / O envelhecimento como um fen?meno social pauta-se nos modos de produ??o e reprodu??o, que atrelados a peculiaridades e conformidades da estrutura social influenciam nos valores e sentidos erguidos. A busca pelo entendimento da realidade dar-se-? pela apropria??o do conhecimento/informa??o, que na contemporaneidade cada vez mais s?o atrelados aos meios midi?ticos, de forma que esses ultrapassam a condi??o de meros meios de comunica??o, chegando a condi??o de instrumentos de produ??o direta de valores, posturas e opini?es. Dentre os instrumentos midi?ticos, tem-se os meios jornal?sticos, que s?o importantes meios de dissemina??o de informa??o e consequentemente de produ??o de sentidos, inclusive sobre o envelhecimento. Assim, de forma geral objetiva-se: conhecer as representa??es da m?dia acerca do envelhecimento, tendo como foco jornais circulantes no Rio Grande do Norte. Aliado ao objetivo geral, elegem-se como espec?ficos: apreender os fatores que possam influenciar nesse processo; e refletir sobre os entendimentos estabelecidos sobre o envelhecimento. Para tanto valer-se-? da Teoria da Representa??o Social. Para coleta dos dados, foram estudadas 57 not?cias online dos tr?s principais jornais do estado, quais sejam: Tribuna do Norte, Gazeta do Oeste e Jornal de Hoje, que foram captadas atrav?s de instrumento de busca dos s?tios dos pr?prios jornais, utilizando os termos de busca: ?envelhecimento?, ?idoso?. Essas mat?rias foram analisadas valendo-se da An?lise de Conte?do Tem?tica de Bardin, que permitiu o estabelecimento de cinco categorias, a saber: Envelhecimento e viol?ncia; Envelhecimento na contemporaneidade; Envelhecimento e sa?de; Envelhecimento e cidadania; e Envelhecimento, trabalho e a??o. Na primeira categoria s?o enquadradas not?cias que denunciam situa??es violentas, que independente da condi??o de v?tima ou acusado pela viol?ncia, a fragilidade do idoso persiste. Em Envelhecimento na contemporaneidade percebeu-se as tentativas da m?dia jornal?stica em explicar as mudan?as demogr?ficas do aumento quantitativo de idosos, os ?nus que isso pode gerar para o pleno desenvolvimento do pa?s. No Envelhecimento e sa?de ? percebido a condi??o de fim iminente trazido no envelhecer, como sin?nimo de doen?as e debilidades. Na quarta categoria, Envelhecimento e cidadania, s?o visualizados situa??es em que peculiaridades e necessidades dos idosos precisam virar obriga??o para serem cumpridas, denunciando condi??o de baixa express?o e poder social da classe. Por fim, em Envelhecimento, trabalho e a??o s?o trazidas situa??es que denunciam a n?o expectativa do idoso a intera??o com as novas tecnologias e participa??o nos rumos decis?rios da sociedade. De forma geral e espec?fica tal an?lise permitiu apreender os modos de produ??o de sentidos sobre envelhecimento pelos jornais, j? que esses tendem a representar o envelhecimento por meio de situa??es intencionadas, conforme necessidades hegem?nicas, construindo a representa??o social do idoso como um ser fr?gil, submisso, inativo, pass?vel ? viol?ncia e suscept?vel ao adoecer. / Aging as a social phenomenon is guided in the ways of production and reproduction, that is linked to the peculiarities and compliances of the social structure influence the values and erected senses. The search for the understanding of the reality will be given by the appropriation of knowledge/information that in contemporary times are increasingly tied to the media means, so that they go beyond the mere condition media, reaching the condition of instruments of direct, attitudes and opinions production. Among the media instruments, there are news medias, that are important means of information dissemination and consequently production of senses, including over aging. Thus, the objective is to: apprehend the social representations and meanings associated with aging in the media space about aging; browse the social representations about aging in media space and their influence on the relations that are established in the cultural socio-economic context. To do it The Theory of Social Representation will be used. To collect the data, 57 online news from the three main state newspapers were studied: Tribuna do Norte, Gazeta do Povo and Jornal de Hoje, which were captured through a search tol of these newspaper sites, using the words: ?aging??elderly?. These materials were analyzed making use of Bardin?s Qualitative Analysis, which allowed the establishment of five categories, namely: Aging and violence; Aging in contemporary times; Aging and health; Aging and citizenship; and Aging, work and action. In the first category news reporting violent situations are framed the regardless of the victim?s condition or the one charged by the violence, the fragility of elderly persists. In Aging in contemporary times the attempts of the news media to explain the demographic changes of the quantitative increases in the elderly, the burden it may lead to the full development of the country are noticed. In Aging and health is noticed the imminent end of the condition brought on age, as a synonym for diseases and conditions. In the fourth category, Aging and citizenship situations are shown where peculiarities and needs or the elderly need to turn into obligation to be fulfilled, denouncing the condition of low expression and social power of the class. Finally, in Aging, work and action situations that indicate the non-expectation of elderly interaction with new technologies and participation in decision-making directions of society are brought. In a general and specific form this analysis allowed learning the ways of production of meanings about aging in the papers, as these ones tend to represent aging through intentioned situations as hegemonic needs, building the social representation of the elderly as fragile person, submissive, inactive, subject to violence and susceptible to becoming ill.
