Previous issue date: 2017-07-31 / Os estudos sobre cidade assumem diferentes perspectivas, dentre as quais situa-se a tem?tica da centralidade urbano regional. Elegendo a Cidade de Santa Cruz com base emp?rica, desenvolveu-se uma investiga??o, que de modo geral, objetivou analisar a rela??o entre o processo de produ??o do espa?o urbano e a centralidade regional, e de forma espec?fica, analisar o processo de produ??o do espa?o urbano, examinar as atividades que fundamentam a centralidade regional exercida pela cidade e elaborar a cartografia da ?rea de influ?ncia de Santa Cruz, segundo segmentos do setor de servi?os. Os procedimentos metodol?gicos envolveram pesquisas bibliogr?ficas, documentais e de campo. Os resultados indicam os processos socioespaciais que envolvem Santa Cruz redefiniram sua base econ?mica, que passou da agropecu?ria para o terci?rio, ressaltando sua fun??o de centro regional. A partir de atividades de com?rcio e servi?os, impulsionando uma din?mica que envolve uma rede de rela??es urbanas que tem a cidade como ponto de converg?ncia. Nesse contexto, a expans?o do segmento dos servi?os foi not?vel, especialmente no que se refere as institui??es p?blicas que se instalaram na cidade, destacando a instala??o dos campi da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN e do Instituto Federal de Educa??o Ci?ncia e Tecnologia - IFRN. Acrescente-se ainda, a constru??o do Complexo do Alto de Santa Rita, que tornou a cidade um destino tur?stico, evento que contribuiu para a amplia??o dos servi?os, sobretudo de hotelaria e alojamento. Mediante isso, foi dinamizada a produ??o do espa?o urbano de Santa Cruz, sendo not?vel tamb?m o seu crescimento populacional, inclusive, com a popula??o urbana passando a ser predominante e a amplia??o do seu s?tio urbano, via ocupa??o de ?reas que deram origem a novos bairros. Nessa perspectiva, ? poss?vel afirmar que as manifesta??es do urbano em Santa Cruz redefiniram sua estrutura espacial e ampliaram suas fun??es urbanas, por meio de uma trama em que a centralidade regional foi sendo fortalecida e seu raio de influ?ncia ampliado chegando a extrapolar os limites do territ?rio potiguar. / The studies about city take different perspectives, among which is the theme of regional urban centrality. By choosing the City of Santa Cruz on an empirical basis, an investigation was developed, which, in general, aimed to analyze the relationship between the urban space production process and the regional centrality, and were specific to analyze the space production process urban; To examine the activities that underpin the regional centrality exercised by the city and to draw up cartography of the area of influence of Santa Cruz, according to segments of the services sector. The methodological procedures involved bibliographical, documentary and field research. The results indicate that social-spatial processes involving Santa Cruz have redefined their economic base, from farming to tertiary, highlighting its role as a regional center, based on trade and services activities, impelling a dynamic that involves a network of urban relations that has the city as a point of convergence. In this context, the expansion of the services segment was notable, especially with regard to public institutions that installed offices in the city and the campuses of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and the Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology (IFRN). Also, the construction of the Alto de Santa Rita Complex, which made the city a tourist destination, an event that contributed to the expansion of services, especially hotel and accommodation. In this context, the production of the urban space of Santa Cruz was boosted, being also notable its population growth, including with the urban population becoming predominant, and the expansion of its urban site, through occupation of areas that gave rise to new neighborhoods. From this perspective, it is possible to affirm that the manifestations of the urban in Santa Cruz redefined its spatial structure and extended its urban functions, through a plot in which the regional centrality was being strengthened and its radius of influence extended, reaching to extrapolate the limits of the potiguar territory.
