A informação é, sem duvida, hoje uma fonte estratégica para a competitividade, tendo as novas tecnologias da informação como ferramentas, culminando com a inteligência e talentos dos seres humanos como recurso. Não há espaço para o profissional que não souber lidar com a informação, e que não esteja preparado para mudanças. Sendo a Escola Agrotécnica Federal de Inconfidentes-MG., uma instituição de ensino profissionalizante, seus alunos não estão fora deste contexto da ''sociedade da informação''. Por isso, resolvemos estudar os motivos que levam os alunos da Escola Agrotécnica Federal de Inconfidentes-MG, dos cursos de Agropecuária, Agrícola e Zootecnia a não freqüentar a sua biblioteca, que é a grande provedora de informação ao seu alcance. Para tanto, se realizou a coleta de dados através de questionários, nos quais após caracterização dos pesquisados, eles responderam perguntas de várias ordens, avaliando sua escola nas partes física, docente e administrativa; responderam ainda questões que versavam sobre suas expectativas quanto ao futuro, e por final responderam questões sobre sua biblioteca e suas preferências de informação (veículos e assuntos). Com os resultados obtidos, demonstrou-se que os motivos que levam os alunos destes cursos da Escola Agrotécnica Federal de Inconfidentes-MG., a não procurar a sua biblioteca são: falta de preparo de seus funcionários (são apenas agentes administrativos); falta de conhecimento das necessidades de seus usuários; falta de entrosamento entre corpo docente e biblioteca; falta de marketing do seu produto; falta de motivação dos alunos gerada por desconhecimento e despreparo para usá-la de modo satisfatório, aliado a um acervo inadequado.
We live in an "information society"and for this reason we need to be prepared to face it. Information is no doubt nowadays a strategic source of competition having the new technical information as tools aiming the knowledge and capability of human beings as a resource. There is no space for the individual who does not work with information and who is not prepared for the changes. Being the State Technical Agriculture College (Escola Agrotécnica Federal) from Inconfidentes, State of Minas Gerais, a professional and technical school its students are not out from this information society concept. For this purpose, we have decided to study these reasons which lead the students from State Technical Agriculture College of Minas Gerais from the courses "Agropecuária e Isotecnia"not to attend their library as it is the great source of information available. With this purpose we collected data using forms in which after the selection of the students involved, several questions were reached, among which, first: evaluating their college as a physical body, their teachers and the administrative department. Questions about their goals for the future were also answered and finalizing questions about the library were also discussed and their choices of information (tools and subjects). With the results obtained, we came to the conclusion that the students'reasons for not to go after the library are: lack of skill from the library people (there are only professionals from the administrative area); library people are not aware of the students'needs; lack of understanding between teachers and library people;lack of advertisement about library material; ;lack of motivation from the students because they are not properly informed an this causes lack of knowldge to take from the library the best results and so they do not have it as a powerful tool of information. We take the opportunity to suggest that the library material be properly updated.
