O Diario de Rama pode ser compreendido considerando-se dois períodos: o do início de sua atividade intelectual até o contexto ditatorial, que coincide com o seu exílio, e aquele que viria a caracterizar a retomada da democracia em meados dos anos oitenta. No entanto, ele não pode compartilhar a intensa devoção à memória e à liberdade que caracterizaria este período pós-ditatorial na América Latina. Sob essa ótica, o Diario pode ser lido como uma representação trágica da memória, sem esquecer que tal representação é mais bem entendida quando levamos em conta que existe um esforço para sair dessa condição trágica seja como exilado, como intelectual comprometido e como ser afetivo. / The aim of this study is to analyze the diary of the Uruguayan critic Angel Rama (Diary: 1974-1983), published after his death in 2001. The Diary of Rama can be understood considering two periods: the beginning of his intellectual activity up to the dictatorial context, which coincides with his exile, and the one which would characterize the return of democracy in the mid 1980.s. However, he didn.t have the chance to share the intense devotion to the memory and liberty which would characterize this post dictatorial period in Latin America. Under this perspective, the Diary can be read as a tragic representation of memory, bearing in mind that such representation is better understood when we consider that there is an effort to escape from this tragic situation, no matter as an exiled, as a committed intellectual or as an affective being.
