Previous issue date: 2011-02-24 / Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos / Different samplings were done in the floating macrophytes stands at Itá reservoir during September, 2006 and March, 2008, with the following objectives: (1) verify the existence of a species-specific relationship between fish species and the floating macrophytes Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes e Salvinia sp.; (2) analyze which factors explain the distribution of littoral fish assemblage; and (3) evaluate if the presence of aquatic macrophytes influences the spatiotemporal distribution of fish assemblages in this region. It was observed some fish assemblage segregation between macrophyte stands composed by Eichhornia crassipes and by Salvinia sp., suggesting a strong influence of the macrophyte stand composition on fish assemblage structure. It was also observed a strong preference of the species Gymnotus carapo, Eigenmannia virescens and Hoplias malabaricus for macrophyte stands composed by E. crassipes, reinforcing the existence of a species-specific relationship between some species of fish and of aquatic macrophtyes. In terms of littoral fish distribution, it was observed that, apparently, the presence of the aquatic macrophytes per se is not the only factor influencing the distribution of littoral fish assemblage, which seemed to be taking advantages from low to medium macrophyte stand size, while at maximum stand size, only few species still use this environment. In this way, it is possible to say that the fish assemblage structure of the studied areas at Itá reservoir was influenced by was influenced by the presence of aquatic macrophytes, although significant daily and seasonal fluctuations in the fish community were observed. / Diferentes amostragens foram realizadas nos bancos de macrófitas aquáticas flutuantes existentes no reservatório de Itá, durante o período de setembro de 2006 a março de 2008, com o objetivo de: (1) verificar a existência de uma relação espécie-específica entre as espécies de peixes e as macrófitas aquáticas flutuantes Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes e Salvinia sp.; (2) analisar quais fatores determinam a distribuição da assembleia de peixes litorâneos; e (3) avaliar se a presença das macrófitas aquáticas influenciam a distribuição espaço-temporal da assembleia de peixes da região. Foi observada uma segregação das assembleias presentes nos bancos de Eichhornia crassipes e Salvinia sp., sugerindo uma forte influência da composição dos bancos na estruturação das assembleias de peixes. Também foi evidenciada uma forte preferência das tuviras Gymnotus carapo e Eigenmannia virescens e da traíra Hoplias malabaricus pelos bancos compostos por E. crassipes, ajudando a reforçar a existência de uma relação espécie-específica entre algumas espécies de peixes e de macrófitas aquáticas. Em relação à distribuição da assembleia de peixes litorâneos, foi observado que, aparentemente, a presença das macrófitas aquáticas não é o único fator que está influenciando a estrutura da assembleia de peixes, a qual parece estar se beneficiando do banco de macrófitas em períodos de baixa e média cobertura vegetal. Nos períodos em que o tamanho do banco se torna maior, apenas algumas espécies continuam utilizando esse ambiente. Portanto, é possível afirmar que a estrutura das assembleias de peixes das regiões estudadas no reservatório de Itá foi influenciada pela presença das macrófitas aquáticas, embora tenha sido observada uma forte variação diária e sazonal na comunidade de peixes local.
