Tese_2007_ AndersonRibeiroOliva.pdf: 5785450 bytes, checksum: 8e5c0c514b7ddba02251c79411223fd7 (MD5) / As idéias e imagens que povoam os cenários mentais de brasileiros e portugueses sobre a África e os africanos resultam de um intenso processo de apropriação e invenção do diversificado e heterogêneo conjunto de formas e sentidos utilizados para observar às sociedades daquele continente. Representações formadas por ingredientes herdados de uma longa e multifacetada tradição e por outros fabricados a partir das experiências históricas e diálogos estabelecidos entre esses espaços atlânticos nos dois últimos séculos, o certo é que, boa parte dessas imagens, associa os africanos a uma série de leituras depreciativas, apesar de existirem também os esforços em sentido contrário. A partir desse quadro, a presente pesquisa objetivou refletir sobre o papel desempenhado pelo ensino da história da África,
nas escolas lusas e brasileiras, na tentativa de modificar ou preservar essas cenas. A partir da análise do tratamento concedido às trajetórias históricas e das representações elaboradas sobre as sociedades africanas nos manuais escolares de História, a investigação revelou a existência de um quadro ambíguo, que, apesar de sinalizar para algumas mudanças, indica a permanência de um extenso conjunto de representações formuladas sobre a questão. Antes de qualquer outra reflexão ela demonstra a necessidade imperiosa de repensarmos a inserção da temática no ensino em ambos os países e de reforçarmos as fileiras de historiadores dedicados a observar a África e suas realidades. / The images and ideas inhabiting the mindset of the Brazilian and the Portuguese people about Africa and the Africans are the result of an intense process of invetion and appropriation of the diversified and heterogeneous set of forms and meanings used to observe the societies of that continent. They are representations shaped by ingredients inherited from a long and multifaceted tradition and by others produced by the historic experiences and the dialogs established among these Atlantic spaces in the last two centuries. It is certain that a significant part of these images associates Africans to a series of derogatory readings, although there are also efforts made towards the opposite direction. Based on this context, this study aimed at reflecting upon the role played by the teaching of African History in the Brazilian and Portuguese schools, in the attempt of modifying or preserving these images. By analyzing the treatment given to the historic trajectory and to the representations created about the African societies in the History textbooks, this investigation has found an ambiguous picture. Although it signals some changes, it indicates the permanence of a wide range of representations formulated about the issue. Before any other reflection, it demonstrates the absolute need of rethinking the inclusion of this topic in the educational curricula of both countries, as well as the engagement of more Historians devoted to observe Africa and its realities.
