Federal e seu entorno. São expostas as intenções e ações das famílias frente ao uso das atividades não-agropecuárias como estratégia de sobrevivência nos
assentamentos. A relativa proximidade de Brasília permite o exercício de ocupações
que resultam na melhoria das condições de vida das famílias ou mesmo na sua
continuidade. Ficou demonstrada a afinidade natural dos indivíduos em relação ao
trabalho agropecuário e também pela pluriatividade, sem que a última atividade interferisse negativamente na primeira. Também se abordou os diversos entraves à pluriatividade, destacando as carências no transporte e educação como as principais barreiras existentes. A agregação de valor aos produtos como estratégia de inserção no mercado capitalista esteve intimamente associada à pluriatividade, enquanto a satisfação com o modo de vida adotado foi demonstrado por ambos os tipos de agricultores, pluriativos ou não. Apesar dos entraves existentes, conclui-se que a pluriatividade é entendida como uma estratégia benéfica de obtenção de melhores condições de vida e de produção pela maioria dos indivíduos entrevistados nos
assentamentos pesquisados. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation analyses the importance and perception of pluriactivity for the families which belong to three different land reform settlements in the Brazilian
Federal District and its surroundings. The intentions and actions of the families concerning the use of the non-agricultural activities as an existing strategy to survive in these settlements are exposed in this study. The relatively close location to Brasilia allows the practice of occupations which result in an increase in the life conditions of the families or even in their continuity. The natural affinity of the individuals
concerning agriculture and livestock working, and also pluriactivity has been demonstrated, without any negative interference caused by the latter in the former two mentioned activities. An approach to the various hindrances to pluriactivity has been also made, emphasizing the lack of a satisfactory educational and transport system as the main existing barriers. The add of value to the products as a strategy of insertion into the capitalist market has been intimately associated to the
pluriactivity, while the satisfaction with the way of life adopted has been
demonstrated by both kinds of agriculturists, pluriactives or not. Despite the existing hindrances, the conclusion is that the pluriactivity is understood as a beneficial
strategy for achieving better life and production conditions by the majority of the individuals who live in the researched settlements.
