Previous issue date: 2007 / Esta dissertação apresenta uma investigação do tratamento da variação lingüística nos livros
didáticos de Língua Portuguesa aprovados pelo Ministério da Educação para o Ensino Médio.
De forma geral, pretende-se analisar as concepções de língua presente nos livros didáticos e a
forma como tais concepções evidenciam aspectos sociolingüísticos para o aluno/professor,
como a noção de “certo” e “errado”, variação lingüística, mudança lingüística e preconceito
lingüístico. Assim, acreditando ser a escola o melhor meio para educar a população, e o livro
didático, o principal veículo nessa tarefa, é importante verificar como esse material está
apresentando a variação lingüística. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation presents a study on the approach to linguistic variation in Portuguese
Language textbooks, which have been approved by the Ministry of Education for high school
level use. In general, our purpose is to evaluate the language concepts in the textbooks and the
way such concepts ascertain socio-linguistics aspects for both the student and the teacher, as
the meaning of “right” and “wrong”, linguistic variation, language change and language
prejudice. Thus, by believing that school is the best way for granting the population education
and that the textbook is the major instrument used in this assignment, it is important to ensure
how these textbooks are presenting the linguistic variation.
