Previous issue date: 2003 / Esta dissertação tem como objetivo contribuir para a análise da organização territorial brasileira e do papel dos transportes na inserção de Brasília, a capital do país, nos circuitos espaciais de produção. A organização socioespacial do território brasileiro evidencia o
importante papel dos sistemas de movimento, não apenas para a inserção do Brasil no
mercado global, como também para a gestão do território. Nesse contexto, Brasília cumpre papel singular: o sistema de transportes brasileiro e a construção de Brasília têm origem no planejamento estatal e importante papel geopolítico na modernização conservadora de meados do século vinte. No centro da concepção geopolítica, encontra-se a idéia de complementação entre os papéis da Capital Federal e do sistema de transportes para a consolidação do Brasil como economia articulada ao capitalismo mundial. A presente pesquisa analisa: em que medida o contexto socioeconômico e a constituição de redes de transportes têm condicionado a gestão do território brasileiro ao
longo da História; qual o papel do transporte aéreo na integração de Brasília à rede urbana brasileira; e qual a relação entre o transporte aéreo e a complexidade funcional do Distrito Federal. As questões de pesquisa foram exploradas por meio da análise de diferentes estudos no campo das ciências sociais, bem como da análise de dados estatísticos. Os achados da pesquisa são o reconhecimento de que: os processos socioeconômicos gerais, bem como os sistemas de movimento do território, concorrem para a inserção do país na economia global e para a integração de centros dinâmicos do território brasileiro na economia nacional, com relevante influência na gestão do território; o papel do transporte aéreo na integração do Distrito Federal à rede urbana brasileira é relevante; e os fluxos do sistema de movimento aeroviário nas ligações de e para Brasília com os principais centros urbanos, concorrem para uma crescente complexidade funcional do Distrito Federal. __________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation aims to contribute for the analysis of the Brazilian territorial organization and the role of transportation systems in the articulation of Brasilia, the capital city, in the spatial circuits of production. The sociospatial organization of the Brazilian territory illustrates the
importance of the systems of movement, not only for the insertion of Brazil in the global market, but also for territorial management. In this context, Brasília has a singular role: both the Brazilian transportation system and the construction of Brasilia originated from governmental planning and have an important geopolitical role in the conservative modernization of the twentieth century. At the center of the geopolitics conception, there is the idea of complementation between the role of
Brasília and the role of the transportation system for the consolidation of Brazil as an economy articulated to the world capitalism.
The present research aims to analyze: to what extent the socioeconomic context and the constitution of transportation networks have been conditioning the administration of the Brazilian territory along History; what is the role of air transport in the integration of Brasilia to the Brazilian
urban network; and what is the relationship between air transport and functional complexity in the Federal District of Brazil. The research subjects were explored through the analysis of different studies in the field of the social sciences, as well as of the data analysis statisticians. The discoveries of the research are the recognition that: the general socioeconomic
processes, as well as the systems of movement of the territory, compete for the insert of the country in the global economy and for the integration of dynamic centers of the Brazilian territory in the national economy, with relevant influence in the administration of the territory; the paper of the air transport in the integration of Federal District to the Brazilian urban net is relevant; and the flows of the air transport system in the connections of and for Brasília with the main urban centers compete for a growing functional complexity in the Federal District of Brazil.
