Previous issue date: 2006-04-17 / Cruz e Sousa, para compor sua obra, valeu-se, inicialmente, da sua natural verve artística, sem dúvida alimentada pela forma intensa com que vivia suas dores e seus desejos. A dor do artista e a dor provocada pelo preconceito racial, bem como suas sutis oscilações, foram as duas variáveis mais exploradas pelo poeta. Note se que se tratam de dores diferentes: a primeira é a dor cósmica do artista, da qual provém o impulso criativo e a moção maior do poeta para produzir belezas; a segunda é uma reação ao preconceito racial, uma dor que punge a alma do homem e do artista. Essa é a dor que provoca a ira, a vingança, que possui a cor da noite, da morte, da África escravizada, mas que também habita a criação literária. Cada uma dessas vertentes congrega um número significativo de composições, sejam elas em forma de sonetos, de longos poemas em verso ou de poemas em prosa. Assim, ao longo desta pesquisa, são trazidas composições selecionadas de Cruz e Sousa analisadas textualmente na busca de uma abertura para a incorporação das dimensões de cunho social, político e psicológico, com foco em questões específicas da mitologia, da tragédia e do mundo filosófico-espiritual, valorizando o que há de atual naquela literatura do final do século XIX. Como Cruz e Sousa é uma parte da história literária brasileira, é certo e natural que tenha sido influenciado pelo seu próprio passado e que tenha deixado um legado às gerações vindouras. Assim, atribuímos ao poeta francês e simbolista Charles Baudelaire a maior fonte de inspiração do poeta catarinense, enquanto que o Modernismo brasileiro carrega a marca de ter tido Cruz e Sousa como um de seus precursores mais representativos. A base teórica utilizada nas análises interpretativas apresenta a exploração da fortuna crítica sobre Cruz e Sousa, além de definições dos temas abordados, como mito, tragédia e poema em prosa. Antonio Candido e Davi Arrigucci Júnior fazem-se presentes quando o assunto é transportar para a literatura a realidade factual; ou seja, mostrar “de que maneira a realidade social ou psicológica se transforma em estrutura literária”.
_________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / In order to create his works, Cruz e Sousa has initially used his natural artistic inclination, which was, no doubt, fed by the intense way in which he experienced his pains and desires. The artist's pain, and the one triggered by racial prejudice as well as its subtle fluctuations were the two most explored variables by the poet. They are different pains however: the first is the cosmic artist's pain, because that is where his drive the creative impulse to produce beauty comes from; the latter is the reaction to racial prejudice, is a pain which hurts the soul of the man and the artist. This is the pain which instills the wrath and the vengeance, the pain which has the color of the night, of death, of slave África, but that makes the literaty creation too. Each of these paths has a significant number of compositions, be they in sonnet form, long poems in verse or poems in prose. Thus, selected compositions by Cruz e Sousa are brought along this research and are analyzed textually looking for an opening for the inclusion of the social, political and psychological dimensions, with the focus in specific questions of mythology, tragedy and the philosophical-spiritual world, emphasizing what is current in the literature of the end of the 19th century. Since Cruz e Sousa is a part of the Brazilian literary history, it is correct and natural that he was influenced by its own past and that he left a legacy to the coming generations. Thus, it is to the French and symbolist poet Charles Baudelaire that his major source of inspiration is attributed, while Brazilian Modernism carries the mark of having Cruz e Sousa as one of the most representative premier. The theoretical base which was used at the interpretatives analyses presents an exploration of the critique wealth about Cruz e Sousa, besides definitions of the themes investigated, such as myth, tragedy and poems in prose. Antonio Candido and Davi Arrigucci Júnior, are discussed when the subject is to carry the factual reality to literature; in other words, to show "in which fashion the social or psychological reality transforms itself in literary structure."
