Previous issue date: 2018-03-26 / Uma particularidade da Doença de Parkinson (DP) é o início unilateral dos seus principais sintomas, como tremor, rigidez e bradicinesia. Este caráter assimétrico da distribuição de sintomas já está bem demonstrado na literatura científica, entretanto, pouco se sabe sobre a assimetria de outros sintomas motores como a fraqueza muscular e a instabilidade postural. O presente estudo teve como objetivo verificar e caracterizar a simetria dos principais sintomas motores na DP. Participaram do estudo 56 voluntários, divididos em dois grupos: Parkinson (n=28), entre os estágios 1 e 2 da Escala de Hoehn & Yahr modificada, de ambos os sexos, e grupo controle (n=28), pareados pela idade. Foram avaliados o tremor, a rigidez, a bradicinesia, a instabilidade postural e a força muscular de plantiflexores do tornozelo. Os resultados da presente pesquisa, mostraram que a força muscular isométrica dos plantiflexores de tornozelo está diminuída no grupo Parkinson em comparação ao controle (p<0,001), já a instabilidade postural não apresentou esta diferença (p=0,113). Os sintomas motores tremor, rigidez, bradicinesia (p<0,001) e instabilidade postural (p=0,05), encontraram-se assimétricos durante os estágios iniciais da doença. Contrariamente, a fraqueza muscular dos plantiflexores de tornozelo apresentaram características simétricas nestes estágios (p=0,88). Acreditamos que os achados deste estudo possam ajudar os profissionais na tomada de decisão clínica, principalmente em relação à escolha das melhores ferramentas de avaliação. Descritores: Doença de Parkinson, assimetria, sintomas motoras. / A peculiarity of Parkinson's Disease (PD) is the unilateral onset of its main symptoms, such as tremor, stiffness and bradykinesia. This asymmetric character of the distribution of symptoms is already well demonstrated in the scientific literature, however little is known about the asymmetry of other motor symptoms such as muscle weakness and postural instability. The present study aimed to verify and characterize the symmetry of the main motor symptoms in PD. Fifty-six volunteers, divided into two groups: Parkinson's (n = 28), between stages 1 and 2 of the modified Hoehn & Yahr Scale of both sexes and control group (n = 28), matched by age, participated in the study. Tremor, stiffness, bradykinesia, postural instability and muscular strength of ankle plantiflexes were evaluated. The results of the present study showed that the isometric muscular strength of the ankle plantiflexes is decreased in the Parkinson group compared to the control group (p <0.001), and postural instability did not present this difference (p = 0.113). The motor symptoms tremor, stiffness, bradykinesia (p <0.001) and postural instability (p = 0.05), were asymmetrical during the early stages of the disease. In contrast, the muscular weakness of the ankle plantiflexors presented symmetrical characteristics at these stages (p = 0.88). We believe that the findings of this study can help professionals in clinical decision making, especially in relation to the choice of the best evaluation tools.
