Previous issue date: 2008-10-05 / Este trabalho teve como objetivo identificar e analisar as representações sociais da morte de professoras e pais, em duas instituições de educação infantil, pública e particular em Brasília-DF. Mas é possível refletir sobre a morte num ambiente com crianças tão pequenas? De que forma isso pode ser feito? Tentar responder a essas questões foi um dos objetivos desta pesquisa. A autora, que há anos vem trabalhando com crianças em instituições de educação infantil, sentiu a necessidade de conhecer melhor o tema após ter compreendido que a família, a escola e a sociedade não educam as crianças para perdas, frustações e, menos ainda, a morte. Neste trabalho a autora fez um percurso histórico sobre a morte no ocidente e aborda outros capítulos que incitem o leitor a compreender e refletir sobre as representações sociais da morte que foram se constituindo na nossa cultura, sugerindo algumas mudanças de atitudes na educação como também a utilização de um recurso indispensável nessa fase da vida escolar da criança – a literatura infantil. A opção metodológica pela teoria das representações sociais é que por meio das relações sociais que a criança vivencia no seu meio familiar, na escola e com seus pares é que a criança vai construindo a representação do mundo. Sendo assim, a análise dos dados obtidos pela pesquisa constatou que as representações sociais de professoras e pais sobre a morte , tanto da escola particular como da escola pública, ainda estão muito vinculadas as representações sociais historicamente concebidas pela nossa cultura, influenciando a maneira como eles irão tratar o assunto com às crianças. Para a melhoria desta realidade, sugere-se pensar a instituição de educação infantil como um espaço de ecologia humana, onde a temática da morte, como também os diversos temas do cotidiano, passem a ser discutidos com seriedade e responsabilidade. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This paper aims to identify and analyze the social representations of death among teachers and parents in two Brazilian elementary schools, being one public and the other private, both located in Brasilia, DF. But, would it be possible to think about death in an environment with children so young? How one does that? To answer such questions comprises one aim of this research. The author, who has being working with children in institutions devoted to childhood education, felt the necessity to better understand the subject after having seen that families, schools and society do not educate children properly for coping with losses, frustrations and, worse yet, death of a dear person. In this paper, the author has made a historic tour about death in the occidental society, stimulating the readers to consider the social representations of death constructed in our culture. The author suggests some attitude changes in education and contends the relevance of literature reading in this phase of the school life. The option for the social representations methodology was due to the fact that it is through such methodology that children construct their world representation. In this context, the data analysis showed that the social representations of both teachers and parents, in both public and private schools, are heavily related to those social representations historically conceived by our culture, which influences the manner the adults presents the subject to children. For improving these circumstances, the author contends that elementary schools should be a place for nurturing human ecology concepts, being death and other relevant human themes treated with seriousness and responsibility.
