Previous issue date: 2009-03 / Este trabalho traça uma breve evolução da música na igreja cristã destacando as tendências que a caracterizam desde a Reforma Protestante do Século XVI. Enfatiza a função pedagógica da música na igreja como meio para ensinar e disseminar a doutrina dos apóstolos com salmos e hinos que contenham as verdades da fé cristã; letras e música tornam-se recursos pedagógicos relevantes para a propagação do evangelho. Descreve as características da Música Cristã Tradicional - MCT e da Música Cristã Contemporânea - MCC; localiza temporalmente o surgimento e o fortalecimento desta. Defende a premissa da existência de um movimento cíclico que resulta na aceitação da MCC e a sua metamorfose em MCT ao longo do tempo, num processo “dicotômico-convergente” na relação entre ambas que, ao longo dos tempos, tem instigado estudiosos e pesquisadores a investigarem causas e conseqüências da aparente contradição. Relata as principais características do processo de crescimento da MCC no culto cristão e a conseqüente retração da MCT, evidenciadas em pesquisa junto a igrejas evangélicas no Distrito Federal. Aponta para a necessidade de ambos os gêneros conviverem harmoniosamente desde que mantenham a qualidade musical e o conteúdo sacro a ser levado às congregações. Por fim reafirma o poderoso caráter propiciador de inclusão social inerente à música e às manifestações musicais e, tanto a MCT como a MCC como catalisadoras deste processo. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work provides a brief evolution of music in the Christian church highlighting its characteristic trends since the Protestant Reform of the 16th century. Emphasizes the educational role of music in church as a means to teach and spread the doctrine of the apostles with psalms and hymns containing the truths of the Christian faith; lyrics and music become learning resources relevant to the spread of the gospel. It describes the characteristics of Traditional Christian Music – TCM – and Contemporary Christian Music – CCM – temporally locating the emergence and strengthening of the latter. Advocates the premise of a cyclical movement that results in the acceptance of CCM and its metamorphosis into TCM over time, a “dichotomous-convergent” process in the relationship between the two that, over time, is urging scholars and researchers to investigate causes and consequences of the apparent contradiction. Reports on the main reasons for the growth process of CCM in Christian worship and the resulting retraction of TCM, evidenced by research among the evangelical churches in the Federal District. Points to the need for both genres to coexist harmoniously as long as they maintain the quality and sacred content of the music to be brought to the congregations. Finally, reaffirms the powerful propitiatory character of social inclusion inherent to music and musical events, and both TCM and CCM as catalysts of this process.
