É constante em diferentes meios de comunicação e faz parte das agendas da maioria dos gestores educacionais. Muitos estudos sobre o tema geraram resultados que alardearam o crescimento vertiginoso do fenômeno em escala mundial e o questionamento acerca das funções da escola e de seus representantes. Esses estudos apontaram para a decadência da instituição escolar e o esvaziamento da autoridade do educador. O presente trabalho centra-se no papel da mídia na abordagem desse tema. Entende-se a mídia como produto e produtora de subjetividades. A pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar criticamente como o tema da violência nas escolas do DF e entorno é retratado por um jornal brasiliense de grande circulação local e verificar a contribuição dessas informações na incitação do pânico moral e na desconstrução da imagem da instituição escolar como espaço seguro de convivência e aprendizado para crianças e adolescentes. Objetivou-se também analisar as reações governamentais geradas por essas divulgações. Trata-se de um estudo documental de perspectiva qualitativa. Utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo de Bardin e foram criadas três categorias de análise, a partir de uma imersão nas informações coletadas, para responder as questões norteadoras do estudo. As categorias foram 1) Ingredientes para a construção do pânico moral; 2) Atribuição de responsabilidade; e 3) Securitização da educação. Foram selecionadas e analisadas notícias veiculadas pelo jornal nos anos 2008 e 2009 que apresentavam tendências representativas dessas categorias. Concluiu-se que a mídia tem papel fundamental na determinação do “estado de ânimo” da população frente ao fenômeno e nas consequentes respostas adotadas pelo Estado. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / “Violence in schools” is a theme of growing interest among researchers. It is a subject appearing constantly within media communication and it belongs to most educational agendas. Lots of studies about this theme generated results which displayed the vertiginous growth of this phenomenon in a Global scale along with the questioning about the duties and functions of the schools and its representatives. These studies pointed out to the decadence of the educational institution and to the educator‟s lack of authority. The present work is centered on the role of the media regarding its approach to this theme. Mass media here is understood as a product and as a producer of subjectivity. The goal of this research was to critically identify how the theme “Violence in schools of the DF and Neighborhood” is portrayed by a local newspaper of great circulation and to verify the contribution of these information as agents of enticement of moral panic and as agents of deconstruction of the image of the educational institution regarded as a safe place for social interactions of the children and adolescents and for their learning. Another goal of this study was to analyze the Government reactions towards these publications. This is a documental analysis study carried out under the qualitative perspective. The Bardin analysis of content was employed and analysis categories were created from the gathered information in order to answer the questions which orientated the study. These are the categories: 1) Ingredients to build up moral panic; 2) Pointing out the culprits; and 3) Cases for the Police. News spread by this local newspaper on 2008 and 2009 were selected and analyzed – they displayed representative tendencies from the above categories. As for conclusion, it can be said that the media has a crucial role in determining the “spirits, the temperament, the dispositions” of an entire population when facing a phenomenon and in the consequent answers given by the Government.
