Construímos a trajetória deste estudo a partir da visão de que o viver é o conjunto de atos que revelam a exteriorização de todas as influências que a pessoa recebeu em seu cotidiano e que traduzem a sua identidade. Assim, delineamos no contexto desta investigação, reflexão sobre marcos referenciais teóricos que informam e embasam os desafios do complexo processo de envelhecimento, bem como, as alternativas oferecidas pelas teorias gerontológicas acerca dos possíveis espaços para realizações pessoais e sociais que propiciam um envelhecer mais saudável desde que haja uma auto preparação voltada para este fim. Para chegar até ao homem idoso deste estudo, delineamos um perfil dos idosos em geral que participam do projeto de extensão universitária mantido pela Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP - Câmpus de Franca, para numa segunda aproximação qualitativa, identificarmos as peculiaridades com que os nossos sujeitos exteriorizaram sua visão sobre o envelhecer. A constatação a que chegamos foi a de que o envelhecer foi considerado pelos homens como processo natural da vida, expressado sob diferentes enfoques que contém significativos conteúdos que deixam transparecer toda uma vivência impregnada de valores, normas, alegrias, frustrações. O importante é que o envelhecer não significa parar de aprender, parar de viver. Os ângulos que este tema suscita para reflexões são muitos, mas este aqui enfocado, a nosso ver, se constitui relevante para abrir espaços para maior valorização do idoso enquanto homem em busca de sua plena realização humana. / The central subject of our inquiry is to age of the people, standing out the singularity to point out in the process of aging, the aged one of the masculine sex, objectifying to identify to which the meaning that has for it, this to age and how they prepares or not, to this place of the life. We constructed the path of this study from the vision of that the life is the set of acts that disclose the uttering all the influences that the person received in its daily and that they translate its identify. Thus, we delineated in the context of this inquiry, reflection on theoretical indications landmarks that inform and base the challenges of the complex process of aging, as well as, the alternatives offered for the social theories concerning the possible spaces for personal accomplishments and social that propitiates one to age more healthful since that it has a training come back to this end. To arrive until the aged man of this study, we delineated a profile of the aged ones in general that they participate of the plan of university extension kept by the Universidade Estadual Paulista - Câmpus de Franca, in order to a second qualitative approach, to identify the peculiarities with that our citizens uttered its vision on aging. The certification the one that we arrived, was of that aging it was considered by the men as natural process of the life, expressed under different approaches that contain significant contents that leave to be transparent all an impregnated experience of values, norms, joys, frustrations. The important one is that aging is does not mean to stop to learn, to stop of living. The angles that this subject excites for reflection are many, but this focused constitute ours to see, important to open space for bigger valuation of the aged one while man, in searching of its fuller accomplishment human being.
