Previous issue date: 2017-02-23 / Pró-Reitoria de Pós-Graduação (PROPG UNESP) / Ao transgredir normas e padrões impostos pela sociedade, mulheres trans e travestis ressignificam suas existências e através da incorporação de gestos, roupas e acessórios, entre outros elementos do universo feminino, “tornam-se” mulheres. Por meio de interpretações de masculino e feminino, essas novas mulheres encontram no design e na moda, formas de expressão que ampliam suas possibilidades identitárias. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo estudar como o design e a moda participam da construção identitária de mulheres transexuais e travestis no contemporâneo. Esta investigação adotou uma abordagem qualitativa, utilizando-se das técnicas de pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo com a aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas e estudos de caso. Foram realizadas 10 entrevistas com mulheres transexuais e travestis, além de 2 outras entrevistas complementares. Uma das dificuldades enfrentadas nesta pesquisa foi a ausência de fontes teóricas relacionado design, identidade, gênero, sexualidade e transexualidade. Por conta dessa lacuna, foi necessário buscar conhecimento por meio dos estudos queer, feministas e pós-estruturalistas -, visando entender como são articuladas as identidades dos indivíduos, para então voltar esforços para o objetivo dessa pesquisa. Considerasse que o objetivo desta pesquisa foi alcançado: o design, além de participar da construção identitária das mulheres trans e travestis, é um instrumento capaz de materializar identidades e estilos de vida no contemporâneo. Desse modo, é possível dizer que o design faz parte da vida dos indivíduos na sociedade contemporânea - de forma objetiva e também subjetiva -, contribuindo para a disseminação de valores que se transformam em bens de consumo e cultura. Diante disso, entender a pluralidade interna existente entre as mulheres trans e travestis contribuiu para reflexões sobre a categoria “mulheres” como um todo. Não se trata – apenas - de como o design pode auxiliar mulheres trans e travestis a serem compreendidas como mulheres, mas sim, de ampliar as possibilidades identitárias dentro dessa categoria, abrindo espaço para que essas mulheres possam adentrar ao espaço do feminino. / By transgressing norms and standards imposed by society, trans and transvestite women re-signify their existence and through the incorporation of gestures, clothes and accessories, among other elements of the feminine universe, they "become" women. Through interpretations of masculine and feminine, these new women find in the design and fashion, forms of expression that expand their possibilities of identity. This research aimed to study how design and fashion participate in the identity construction of transsexual and transvestite women in the contemporary world. This research adopted a qualitative approach, using the techniques of bibliographical, documentary and field research with the application of semi-structured interviews and case studies. Ten interviews with transsexual women and transvestites were carried out, as well as two other complementary interviews. One of the difficulties faced in this research was the absence of theoretical sources related to design, identity, gender, sexuality and transsexuality. Because of this gap, it was necessary to seek knowledge through queer, feminist and poststructuralist studies - in order to understand how the identities of individuals are articulated, and then to return efforts to the objective of this research. Consider that the goal of this research has been achieved. It was noted that design - besides participating in the identity construction of trans women and transvestites - is an instrument capable of materializing identities and lifestyles in the contemporary. In this way, it is possible to say that design is part of the life of individuals in objective and also subjective society, contributing to the dissemination of values that become consumer goods and culture. In view of this, understanding the internal plurality between trans and transvestite women has contributed to reflections on the category of "women" as a whole. It is not just a question of how design can help transgender and transvestite women to be understood as women, but rather of expanding the possibilities of identity within that category, opening space for these women to enter the space of the feminine. / PROPG UNESP: 00.889.834/0001-08
