Previous issue date: 2016-10-14 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) / No século XIX, a cidade do Rio de Janeiro passou por um significativo processo de modernização, impulsionado, entre outros motivos, pela redefinição do cenário urbano e pelo advento da imprensa. Nesse palco, os jornais franceses publicados na capital do Império tornaram-se cada vez mais numerosos e legaram diversos escritos a respeito dos acontecimentos e das mudanças da cidade. Entre as diversas seções e notícias registradas por esses periódicos, a seção dos anúncios teve um papel de destaque ao apresentar os produtos adquiridos, os serviços contratados e os lugares que os homens daquele tempo frequentavam – especialmente os cafés, confeitarias e restaurantes. Partindo do mapeamento dos anúncios de lojas de comidas e bebidas e dos cafés, confeitarias e restaurantes, o principal objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar o que eles informaram sobre tais lugares, isto é, delinear as comidas e as bebidas vendidas e os serviços e os espaços físicos disponibilizados e apresentar de que maneira eles buscaram promover esses estabelecimentos como lugares de passeio e de rendez-vous dos cariocas daquela época. Para este propósito, a esta dissertação procura investigar os porquês de publicar uma folha francesa no Rio de Janeiro, os principais temas abordados que diziam respeito à capital do Império e como os impressos franceses buscaram afirmar a chegada de uma vie moderne nas terras fluminenses. Em outras palavras, os questionamentos buscam apreender o papel dos periódicos franceses na redefinição de certos gostos, hábitos e costumes da sociedade carioca oitocentista. / In the nineteenth century a significant process of modernization occurred in Rio de Janeiro driven by changings in the urban landscape and the advent of printing. In this scene, the French newspapers published in the capital of the empire became increasingly numerous and bequeathed several writings about the events and changes of the city. Among all the sections and news recorded by these journals, the ads' section had an important role in presenting the products, contracted services and the places attended by brazilian society - especially the cafes, pastry shops and restaurants. After mapping the ads about food and drinks, coffee shops, pastry shops and restaurants, we have as main goal to analyze what were informed about such places, that is, outline the foods, drinks, services and the places to show how these journals sought to promote these establishments as passenger seats and rendez-vous to Rio society. Thereby, this dissertation investigates the reasons to publish a French paper in Rio de Janeiro, the main themes that concerned to the capital of the Empire and also how these printed sought to affirm a vie moderne in Rio de Janeiro. In other words, these questions are heading in order to understand the role of French journals in redefining certain tastes, habits and customs of the eighteenth century carioca society.
