Através de entrevistas aplicadas foi possível caracterizar a mitilicultura. O município conta com 53 produtores, distribuídos em 16 praias, do mexilhão Perna perna e destes, 11 produzem experimentalmente a vieira Nodipecten nodosus. O sistema de cultivo adotado no município é em espinhei ou Iong line sendo que todos os mitilicultores foram capacitados pelo Instituto de Pesca da Agência Paulista Tecnológica dos Agronegócios da Secretaria Estadual de Agricultura e Abastecimento. Os principais entraves da atividade são: sementes, mão de obra especializada, roubo, local de manipulação em terra, acesso ao crédito, certificação sanitária do produto, regularização das áreas e obtenção do certificado de aqüicultor. O ordenamento da atividade em nível federal, estadual e municipal é recente e de difícil aplicação. O espaço destinado à implantação da aqüicultura de baixo impacto é de 2000m2 de lâmina de água para produção do mexilhão P. perna, porém nenhum produtor utiliza totalmente esta área. Por este motivo, utilizou-se os dados de questionários aplicados para a caracterização da tecnologia, produção e mercado e foi prospectada a ocupação total desta fazenda. A avaliação econômica desta situação apresentou-se economicamente viável com período de recuperação de capital de 3,35 anos, período recuperação de capital econômico de 4,17 anos, valor presente líquido de R$ 72.589,20, relação beneficio custo de 2,38, taxa interna de retorno de 29% por ano e custo operacional total de R$ l,42/kg . O número de 78 áreas aquícolas de baixo impacto para a implantação da maricultura foi estimado utilizando-se os dados dos pontos demarcados por Gelli e Marques... / Mariculture has been developed in an organized, responsible and sustainable way on the coast of Ubatuba, São Paulo State. However, it is hindered by the slowness of the legalization processo Through interviews it has been possible to characterize the mariculture. The municipality has 53 mussel (Perna Perna) farmers distributed along 16 beaches, 11 of whom experimentally farm the scallop Nodipecten nodosus.The long-line farming system has been adopted here, and ali the mitili farmers have been trained by the Fishing Institute of the State Secretary for Agriculture/s Paulista Technology Agency. The main impediments to the activity are seed, specialized manual labor, theft, areas where soi! is moved, access to credit, hygiene certification of the product, legalization of areas, and obtaining a farming certificate.. Regulation of the activity at federal, state and municipal levels is recent and therefore difficult to apply. The surface area of water assigned for low impact aquaculture is 2,000 m2 for the production of the mussel P. perna. However, none of the farmers use this total area. For this reason data from questionnaires on the characterization of technology, production and market was used, based on using the whole area of this farm. Under these conditions it showed itself to be economically viable, with a payback period in 3.35 years, payback period economic in 4.17 years, a net present value of R$ 72,589.20, a benefit-cost ratio of 2.38, an internal return rate of 29% per year, and a total operational cost of R$ 1.42. The number of 78 low-impact areas for establishing aquaculture was estimated using demarcation data points by Gelli and Marques (2001), and th€ practical experience of fishermen and mussel farmers from specific meetings held for this purpose.
