Previous issue date: 2003 / Resumo: Essa tese de doutorado aborda a educação ambiental como objeto de estudo sociológico e apresenta a Teoria das Ideologias como referencial teórico. Tem como questão motivadora central das reflexões, a indagação de que tal qual a Educação estaria também a educação ambiental sujeita a constituir-se num instrumento ideológico de reprodução das condições sociais? Essa indagação, sociologicamente crucial, remete-nos à reflexão sobre a função social da educação ambiental, ou seja, remete-nos ao enquadramento analítico das relações estabelecidas entre a educação ambiental e a mudança social, deixando em segundo plano, as relações estabelecidas entre a educação ambiental e a mudança ambiental. Nesse sentido, percorremos alguns dos principais elementos do campo da educação ambiental, a exemplo da lei que rege a Política Nacional, da principal metodologia adotada e da principal atividade pedagógica, procurando identificar suas relações com a mudança social / Abstract: This Doctoral Thesis concerns on the environmental education as an object of sociology study and presents a Theory of the Ideologies as a theoretical reference. The central motivational reflection is the question of as a part of Education, the Environmental Education shall also become an ideological instrument to reproduce the social conditions? This question, sociologically curtail, send us to reflect about the social function of the environmental education, in other words, send us to the analytical framework of the relations established between the environment education and the social change, leaving the relations established between the environmental education and the environmental change in the background. In this sense, we follow some of the principal elements of the environmental educational space, as an example of the law that drives the National Policy, from the main methodology adopted and the main pedagogic activity, seeking to identify their relationship with the social change / Doutorado / Doutor em Sociologia
