Previous issue date: 2003 / Resumo: A leva de imigrantes italianos que vieram para São Paulo no final do século XIX e início do século XX, participou intensamente do avanço industrial brasileiro. Portanto, tornou-se pertinente uma investigação sobre o imigrante italiano do segundo pósguerra, pois este diferencia-se daquele que o antecedeu. O interesse dos governantes do Brasil era o de receber mão-de-obra qualificada, além da preocupação eugênica a vinda de imigrantes da Europa Ocidental. O governo italiano, por sua vez, incentivou seus compatriotas a emigrar, para efetuar a remessa de lucros que muito auxiliou na reconstrução econômica italiana e para aliviar as tensões sociais ocasionadas pelo desemprego. Através de depoimentos dos imigrantes que vieram trabalhar na cidade de São Paulo, pudemos avaliar sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento industrial brasileiro e constatar o grau de qualificação desta mão-de-obra / Abstract: The amount of italian immigrants that came to São Paulo at the end of 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century, participed intensively in the brasilian industry development. Thus, na investigation about the italian immigrant of the postSecond World War became pertinent, because that differs from the one that preceded it. The intrest of the brasilian rulers was receiving qualified manpower besides the eugenic concerm: the ar rival of immigrants from western Europe. The italian government stimulated it's compatriots to emmigrate in order to send profits to Italy - wich greatly helped the contry to be economical/y re- built - and also to reduce the social tensions brought about by unemployment. By means of the testimoy of the immigrants that came to São Paulo to work, we could assess their contribution for brasilian industry development and find out that manpower qualification / Mestrado / Mestre em História
