Previous issue date: 2003 / Resumo: O presente estudo avaliou retrospectivamente a saúde bucal de 120 pacientes submetidos a tratamento quimioterápico no Hospital das Clínicas da UNICAMP durante o período de 2000 a 2001. Foram analisados os prontuários odontológicos dos 120 pacientes considerando idade, gênero, tipo de câncer, tipos de lesões bucais, variações de normalidade, índice CPOD, índice de placa e índice gengival. O gênero predominante foi o masculino (65%) e a maioria dos casos acometeram pacientes na faixa etária de 45 a 60 anos de idade. O principal tipo de câncer esteve localizado no aparelho digestivo (40%), seguido pelo de cabeça e pescoço (15%) e de ossos/partes moles (12,5%). Língua saburrosa esteve presente em 47,5% dos pacientes, gengivite em 30,8% e periodontite em 20% dos pacientes. A mucosite bucal afetou 4,1 % dos pacientes (n=120), a qual foi de grau leve sem sintomatolgia dolorosa. Houve uma forte correlação entre avanço da idade e aumento do índice CPOD. Concluímos que a grande maioria das alterações encontradas na boca destes pacientes não estão relacionadas principalmente aos efeitos indesejáveis da terapêutica, mas sim a deficiente higienização bucal, mostrando desta forma a importância do cirurgiã-dentista na equipe multidisciplinar. Este deve realizar o tratamento odontológico antes, durante e após o tratamento quimioterápico, evitando a ocorrência de focos infecciosos em pacientes já debilitados pela doença e pelo tratamento / Abstract: The aim of present study was evaluate, retrospectively, oral health of 120 patients under chemotherapy treatment at Hospital das Clínicas of UNICAMP from 2000 to 2001. Clinical records of these 120 patients, considering age, sex, type of cancer, type of anti-cancer treatment, types of oral lesions, variations in the normality, DMFT index, plaque and gingival indexes were analyzed. Male sex was predominant (65%) and most of the cases occurred in patients between 45 and 60 years of age. The main type of cancer was located in the gastrointestinal tract (40%), followed by head and neck cancer and bone / soft tissue cancer (12,5%). furred tongue appeared in 47,5% of the patients, gingivitis in 30,8% and periodontitis in which had 20%. Oral mucositis affected 4,1 % of the patients (n=120), mild level, and without painfull sintomatology. A strong correlation between the advanced age and the increase of DMFT index was noted. Therefore, it was concluded that most alterations found in the mouth of these patients were not mainly related with the side effects of the chemotherapy, but to the lack of oral hygienic care, showing in this way, the importance of the dentist in the multidisciplinar team. The dentist must provide the oral evaluation and treatment, before, during and after the chemotherapy treatment, avoiding in the occurrence of infectious disease in patients already weakened by cancer disease and its treatment / Mestrado / Patologia / Mestre em Estomatopatologia
