Previous issue date: 2002 / Resumo: O desenvolvimento dentário vai da vida intra-uterina até por volta dos 21 anos de idade. Os elementos dentários são as estruturas orgânicas que fornecem os melhores subsídios para a estimativa da idade, pois, sofrem menos interferências de fatores sistêmicos e de desnutrição que afetam a maturidade e o desenvolvimento ósseo. Muitos estudos foram realizados com o objetivo de desenvolver e aprimorar técnicas de estimativa da idade nos indivíduos vivos, mortos ou em fase de esqueletização, através da cronologia de mineralização dos dentes. Porém, os autores defendem a necessidade da realização de estudos em amostras regionalizadas, devido à representativa miscigenação racial existente no Brasil. O presente trabalho foi proposto com a intenção de se estudar a estimativa da idade pela mineralização dos dentes, em indivíduos melanodermas, utilizando-se o método preconizado por NICODEMO et al. (1974). Foram analisadas 214 radiografias panorâmicas de indivíduos melanodermas, soteropolitanos, com hábitos alimentares semelhantes, na faixa etária de 06 a 20 anos, sendo 109 pertencentes ao sexo feminino e 105 ao sexo masculino. Pela análise dos resultados obtidos pôde-se concluir que o método empregado não apresentou eficácia quando testado numa amostra composta por indivíduos melanodermas. A análise por regressão linear simples, empregada na amostra, permitiu elaborar uma equação para estimativa da idade em melanodermas, para cada dente e para cada sexo. A partir da análise por regressão linear múltipla, pôde-se desenvolver equações para estimativa da idade em melanodermas, utilizando-se os estágios de mineralização dos dentes que apresentaram os mais significativos coeficientes de determinação no estudo / Abstract: The dental development starts during the intra-uterine life to about the 21 years of age. The dental elements are the organic structures that supply the best subsidies for the estimate of the age, because they suffer less interference of systemic factors and of malnutrition that affect the maturity and the bone development. Many studies were accomplished with the objective of developing and perfecting techniques of estimate of the age in the alive individuals, dead or in skeletonization phase, through the chronology of the teeth mineralization. However, the authors defend the need of the accomplishment of studies in regional samples, due to the representative existent racial miscegenation in Brazil. The present work was proposed with the intention of studying the estimate of the age for the teeth mineralization, in melanoderm individuals, being used the method extolled by NICODEMO et al. (1974). 214 panoramic x-rays of melanoderm individuals were analyzed, inhabitants from Salvador, with similar alimentary habits, in the age group from 06 to 21 years, being 109 belonging to the feminine sex and 105 belonging to the masculine sex. With the analysis of the obtained results it could be concluded that the method employee didn't present effectiveness when tested in a sample composed by melanoderms individuals. The analysis for simple lineal regression, maid in the sample, allowed to calculate an equation for estimate of the age in melanodermas, for each tooth and for each sex. Starting from the analysis for multiple lineal regression, it could grow an equation for estimate of the age in melanoderms, being used the apprenticeships of mineralization of the teeth presented the most significant determination coefficients in the study / Mestrado / Doutor em Odontologia Legal e Deontologia
