Previous issue date: 2010 / Resumo: Objetivos: Analisar a função pulmonar e a capacidade funcional de obesos mórbidos no pré-operatório de cirurgia bariátrica antes e após perda ponderal. Métodos: A função pulmonar foi avaliada no laboratório de função pulmonar do Hospital de Clínicas da Unicamp. A capacidade funcional foi avaliada pelo Teste de Caminhada de 6 minutos. Ambos os testes foram realizados antes e após a perda de peso. Para cálculo dos valores de referência para a distância caminhada (distância prevista), foi utilizada a fórmula proposta por Enright e Sherril (114). Resultados: Foram avaliados 26 obesos mórbidos com idade mediana de 36 anos, IMC mediano de 50,5 kg/m2. Os indivíduos obtiveram perda de peso mediana de 10,5 kg e, com isso, o IMC apresentou uma diminuição de mediana 50,5 para 46 kg/m2 após perda mediana de 49,5 dias. A distância percorrida apresentou aumento significativo de 7,8% após a perda de peso. A diferença da distância prevista com a distância percorrida apresentou uma diminuição estatisticamente significativa após a perda de peso. A função pulmonar encontrava-se dentro dos limites normais antes da perda de peso e, após a perda de peso, não foram observadas diferenças significativas da CVF%, IT%, VVM%; apenas um aumento significativo do VEF1%. Conclusões: Pode-se concluir que obesos mórbidos no período pré-operatório de cirurgia bariátrica apresentaram melhora da capacidade funcional com a perda de peso, demonstrado pelo aumento da distância caminhada, se aproximando dos valores previstos de normalidade após a perda de peso. A função pulmonar, que antes da perda de peso já se apresentava dentro dos limites de normalidade, não demonstrou diferença clinicamente relevante após a perda de peso / Abstract: Objectives: To analyze the lung's function and its functional capacity on morbidly obese people on the pre-surgery stage of the bariatric surgery before and after weight loss. Procedures: The lung's function was investigated at the Laboratory of the Lung's Function at the Hospital of Clinicas of Unicamp. The functional capacity was investigated through a test called "6 minutes Walking Test". Both tests were carried out before and after weight loss. Enright and Sherrril's proposed formula (114) was used as an estimate for the reference of values for the walked distance (forecasted distance). Results: 26 morbidly obese people with a median age of 36 years and median body mass index of 50,5kg/ m2 were investigated. They had an median weight loss of 10,5 kg resulting in a median reduction of their body mass index from 50,5 to 46 kg/m2 after median loss of 49.5 days. After the weight loss there was an increase of 7,8% of the distance walked. The difference between the forecasted distance and the walked distance had a statistically significant decrease after the weight loss. Before the weight loss the lung's function was within the normal limits and after the weight loss there was no significant difference of CVF%, IT%, VVM%, with only a slight increase of VEF1%. Conclusions: The conclusion reached is that morbidly obese people on the pre-surgery stage of the bariatric surgery demonstrated increase of the functional capacity with a weight loss. This is proved through the increase of the distance walked, whilst reaching the normal reference values after the weight loss. The lung's function which before the weight loss was already within the normal standards did not demonstrate any relevant difference after the weight loss / Mestrado / Pesquisa Experimental / Mestre em Cirurgia
