Previous issue date: 2002 / Resumo: O presente estudo foi motivado por observações não sistematizadas da participação de casais grávidos durante cursos e oficinas de preparo para o parto. Observamos a admiração do homem pela barriga grávida de sua companheira, e também sua necessidade de melhor apreender e compreender a concretude biológica de estar gestando um filho. O objetivo deste estudo foi criar um artefato que simulasse uma barriga grávida, para que, mediante seu uso, o homem sentisse parte da concretude biológica de estar gestando um filho, e também se identificasse com a companheira grávida. O processo criativo foi o referencial teórico e fundamentou o percurso mental para elaboração técnica do artefato criado. Fizemos uma revisão sobre maternidade e paternidade no contexto atual, tentando trazer à tona o significado da barriga grávida para o homem / pai, podendo, assim, contribuir para o exercício da imaginação e da paternidade por meio do uso de um artefato. Traduzimos na metodologia o trajeto percorrido pelas fases do processo criativo apresentadas por KNELLER (1978), por se assemelharem aos passos por nós elaborados e vividos, tornando mais didática a descrição da criação do invento em questão. Obtivemos como resultado a confecção de dois protótipos, dos quais o segundo atingiu as dimensões e o peso desejados, simulando uma barriga grávida compatível com final de gestação. Seu uso teve boa aceitação pelos profissionais e casais que inicialmente o testaram. Considera-se que futuras pesquisas poderão ser feitas com a utilização desse invento / Abstract: This study was motivated by observations of the pregnant couples during prenatal classes. We observed the admiration that the man had by his wife's pregnant belly, and also his need to get more understanding regarding biological and physical condition of being pregnant. The main objective was to create an invention, which could simulate a pregnant belly to help the men to feel part of biological and physical condition of being pregnant, and also to identify themselves with their wifes, as well. The creative process was our theoretical concerning and gave bases to the technical elaboration of this invention. We had done revision of bibliography giving emphasis to fatherhood and motherhood at nowadays context, trying to bring the meaning of the pregnant belly to the man/father. Some how, it could contribute to the fatherhood concepts through the invention usage. Our methodology followed the steps presented by KNELLER (1978), because its run toward the steps lived by us, becoming more didactic the description of the invention. The result was the confection of two prototypes, of which the second reached measurements and weight desirable, simulating a pregnant belly compatible with forty weeks pregnancy. The utilization of this invention had great acceptance among professionals, and couples who had first tested it.
