Previous issue date: 2004 / Resumo: Objetivos é Identificar os mitos quanto ao significado da perda do útero em mulheres hospitalizadas no período pré-operatório da cirurgia de histerectomia. Sujeitos e Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo do tipo qualitativo em amostra proposital de dez mulheres que estavam hospitalizadas no período pré-operatório com indicação cirúrgica de histerectomia. Foram utilizados uma ficha de caracterização para a coleta de informações pessoais e um roteiro semi-estruturado com perguntas de partida e de aprofundamento, ambos pré-testados. Nas entrevistas, que foram gravadas mediante autorização das mulheres, foi seguido o roteiro abordando os principais temas: as funções do útero e seu significado; útero e feminilidade; útero, sexualidade e imagem corporal e relacionamento conjugal. As entrevistas foram transcritas e realizou-se a análise temática do conteúdo. Resultados Nas falas das mulheres, os mitos mais recorrentes em relação ao útero referiram-se à perda da feminilidade, frigidez, a não serem mais as mesmas, à possibilidade da mudança na imagem corporal, à interferência na vida afetiva e sexual (ficar oca, vazia, ter um buraco) e à percepção do companheiro a seu respeito. Conclusão: As mulheres apresentaram mitos quanto à retirada do útero, relacionados à sua identidade social de gênero e à falta de conhecimento sobre seu corpo, órgãos e suas funções. Apresentou-se a necessidade de atuar educativamente junto a essas mulheres para criar oportunidades de reflexão sobre esses mitos e assimilação de informações científicas / Abstract: Objective: To Identify the myths regarding the loss of the womb between the women hospitalized in the pre-surgery period from the surgery of hysterectomy. Subjects and method: It was carried out a study of the qualitative kind in a sample proposed of ten women that were hospitalized in the pre-surgery with indication of hysterectomy surgery. It was utilized an application of characterization to collects (research) of personal information and a script was structured with questions to start and deepening the questions, both pre-tested. The interviews were recorded by the authorization of the women interviewed, followed the script approaching the main themes: the functions of the womb and its meaning; womb and femininity; womb, sexuality and corporal image and conjugal relationship. The interviews were transcribed and carried out itself analysis the theme of the content. Results: The myths regarding the womb more common in women's speech, referred to the loss of femininity, frigidity, they will not be the same person as they were before, the possibility of a change in the corporal image, the interference in the sexual and affectionate life (stayed hollow, empty, have a hole) and their companion's perception about them. Conclusion: The women present myths regarding the loss of the womb, related to theirs social identity of gender, lack of knowledge of their body, the body organs and theirs functions. Presents itself the need of a leaming educational process for those women, to create opportunities of reflection about those myths and assimilation of scientific information / Mestrado / Ciencias Biomedicas / Mestre em Tocoginecologia
