Previous issue date: 2007 / Resumo: O estudo teve por objetivo contribuir para a compreensão de alguns dos componentes da habilidade matemática, por meio da abordagem de solução de problemas. Buscou investigar quais as relações existentes entre o desempenho em problemas de matemática e os componentes viso-pictóricos e lógicoverbais da habilidade matemática, tentando identificar sujeitos que apresentem diferentes tipos de arranjos matemáticos da mente, segundo a concepção de V. A. Krutetskii (1976). Também foi objeto de estudo pesquisar dois construtos afetivos e que influenciam o desempenho do sujeito durante a solução de problemas matemáticos: a atitude em relação à Matemática e a auto-eficácia matemática. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram 213 alunos do Ensino Médio de duas escolas, uma pública e outra privada. Os participantes do estudo foram submetidos primeiramente a quatro instrumentos que possibilitaram a seleção de dois sujeitos de desempenhos altamente satisfatórios, submetidos então a dois testes aplicados individualmente, por meio do método de "pensar em voz alta". Os dados coletados nas várias etapas do estudo e que foram analisados de forma qualitativa e quantitativa possibilitaram concluir que existe uma relação entre o desempenho, a atitude e a auto-eficácia em relação à matemática, sendo que os dois sujeitos de melhor desempenho da amostra foram classificados como tendo mentes harmônicoanalíticas. / Abstract: The purpose of this study was to contribute to the understanding of some of the components of mathematical ability. It attempted to investigate the relationship that exists between performance in mathematical problems and the visual-pictorial and verbal-logical components of the mathematical ability, in order to identify subjects that possess different types of mental mathematical arrangements, according to the conception of V. A. Krutetskii (1976). Two affective constructs that influence the subject's performance during mathematical problem-solving were also objects of this study: attitude toward mathematics and mathematical self-efficacy. The subjects of the study were 213 high school students from two schools, one public and the other private. Four instruments were initially used to select two study participants with highly satisfactory performance, who were then tested individually with two tests, using the think-aloud method. The data collected during the various stages of the study, and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, made it possible to conclude that there is a relationship between performance, attitude and self-efficacy in mathematics, since the two subjects with the best sample performance were classified as having abstract-harmonics minds. / Doutorado / Psicologia, Desenvolvimento Humano e Educação / Doutor em Educação
